A propos de Waldorf

During the summer of 2001 a guy called Wolfgang Vanwymeersch comes to the city of Ghent on a mission: writing down-to-earth, yet infectious pop and rocktunes. Grounding on his musical roots like them Beatles, early Bowie and Sex pistols, he creates songs that combine sweet catchiness and twisted dirt.

He starts recording at home and soon after he finds like-minded musicians to form a band called Waldorf.
They finish off Wolf's early draughts and record them for a first demo. The music keeps the stripped-down atmosphere, but still it gains richness and profundity in a band setting.

Awaiting a first official release, the Waldorfians are above all playing live. In the fall of 2002 they play support acts and late night shows with a.o. Suede and Enon and gig around in the Belgian and Dutch club circuit (AB, Effenaar, Paradiso). Halfway February 2003 Waldorf heads for a short club tour in Switzerland.

In the meanwhile, Waldorf goes through your average record business pandemonium and decides to release an album on the independent label, Kinky Star Records. With a limited budget and a great deal of DIY-spirit, they start recording on various locations with various people (a.o. Pim De Wolf (Thou)) throughout 2004.
Jan De Rijck (Daan, Bettie Serveert) took care of the final mix. Early 2005 the long awaited Waldorf debut is finally released.

The album gets rave reviews in the Belgian written press and the band soon finishes of a list of concerts. In summer they play festivals like Dour, Boomtown,...
