The Men They Couldn't Hang

As powerful as ever. And Olby’s Bar was a great small venue.

Absolutely amazing show. Can't recommend them highly enough. The Waterloo is a great venue, quite intimate but has everything you need. Hope TMTCH come to the North West again soon

A fantastic show as usual. It’s always good to see a band that clearly love what they do.

Excellent show as always & great to hear some songs that hadn't been played for a while.

Was enjoying the show. Some dancing was a bit aggressive. I think the band cut the set short only on for 1 1/4 hours. Play some good old songs which the band and crowd really got into

As always, absolutely brilliant. Full of energy. Great chat too. Such a happy crowd, brilliant atmosphere.

As usual a great show. One of the best live bands I’ve seen.

intimate venue but great atmosphere, support act was excellent and TMTCH seemed to enjoy themselves almost as much as we did ! BUT if you are tall and in a band, this venue may not be for you

Fantastic show at a great venue! That evergreen band, The Men They Couldn't Hang continued their 40th anniversary tour with a typically stellar performance in Edinburgh. This is a group that never disappoints. The quality of their sound is as close to their recorded output as anyone can manage, yet they still throw in those little impromptu flourishes that only live shows can deliver. Belting out tunes new and old (including a couple from their first album 'Night of a Thousand Candles' released in 1985) there was enthusiastic and raucous support from the sold-out audience, many of whom, including the sizeable younger contingent, seemed to know every word. The re-built La Belle Angele, at the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, is a decent concert venue, even if they are a bit quick to close the bar (obviously unaware of the drinking capacity of a TMTCH audience and the band themselves!) to rush out gig-goers in favour of their subsequent night club attendees. But nothing can diminish the feel-good glow after a show by The Men They Couldn't Hang. If you've never seen them, do yourself a favour and book. If you have, then you will appreciate doing it all over again. As their tour tag-line states: '40 years of rhythm, going strong' and they most certainly are...

TMTCH we're on top form, playing a range of classics and some lesser known tracks but it was a great night. Cant wait to we see them in Glasgiw in December. Brilliant!!!

Just brilliant - from 'Raising Hell' to 'Walkin, Talkin' this was a tour-de-force of a band still remembering one of their fallen (Cush - & he will always be remembered) but honouring him in the best way possible - by playing their hearts & souls out. Fantastic sound & a great venue made for the most memorable gig for me, ever...period! Don't think I've ever done a matinee gig before but I would definitely do one again, especially as band members were mingling out front before & after the gig, happily chatting with fans & posing for photos. I think the early finish (8-ish) & no gig next day made for a very happy experience for all.

If you know them you’ll love them and know what to expect, and as usual a superb gig. Venue was unique and first time visited and apart from an overly officious door man insisting we go around the barrier when there was absolutely no one queuing, the venue is excellent and would go again.

Awesome, so much energy. I get emotional when it's amazing and I cried twice!

As usual the band put on an excellent show. The crowd loved it and it was clear that so did the band. It really makes a difference when it means so much to the band.

Been watching The Men for 38 years now… The Men continue to be fabulous! Impossible not to have a great time at their gigs. … Long may they continue to play live gigs!

After a wait of over 10 years, I finally managed to see TMTCH live. The previous years were blighted with no gigs, missed opportunities, double-bookings & general incompetence on my part! Saturday night was almost scuppered again by my mate not having his Covid passport with him (doesn't have a smartphone - only because he couldn't really be bothered with all that!) so a mad dash to Ilkeston & back by taxi ensued, reaching the Rescue Rooms a little after 8PM. We grabbed a pint at the bar and then found a bit of standing room by a large pillar in the packed room. 8.15 (ish) & on they come & kicked straight into Raising Hell - this set the tone for the evening's entertainment & raised the hairs on the back of my neck. Finally! After so many years of missed opportunities here they were & so was I! The night went by in a blur of beer, cheering & singing (not necessarily in that order!) from which I'm still recovering. They barnstormed through a varied setlist with personal highlights being The Green Fields Of France (a fitting tribute to the dearly missed Cush), Smugglers and The Colours but to be honest, I could count every song as a favourite because they were all just superb. TMTCH are - in my opinion - all about stories, and every song tells a tale wrapped around rousing choruses and soaring melodies which is right up my aural strasse! Main set finished with Ironmasters which left everyone wanting more (& a little hoarse), & more they got with an encore of A Night To Remember and Walkin' Talkin'. Utterly superb - witty banter interspersed with great songs, and out & about round Nottingham just after 10pm! What a fantastic evening's entertainment & the best £20 (+ booking fee) ever spent. I'm hoping they'll come round again soon & if they do, I'll be there (as will my mate - now definitely a TMTCH fan; previously TMTCH curious ;-)), I just hope it won't take another 10 years!

Good venue (although tricky to find through a bar, out a door and in again!) Great band. Very emotional since given the passing of Stefan Cush. Love them.

Brilliant gig. Love the venue. Thought I'd miss Borderline but Nells was great

I’ve only been following The men... 35 years, the gig last night was as fantastic as any I can remember!

The Men They Couldn’t Hang have never let me down ... every new TMTCH virgin I bring to the show leaves as a fan ... last night was no exception. Fantastic from start to finish.
