This was an excellent gig. The support bands, Kin that I had never seen before set the mood for the night with their punk songs, and Elevant whom I had seen quite a few times before were at their usual best. False Advertising totally smashed it. I have loved this band for a few years now and, with a brand new album under their belt, they were phenomenal. There are not many three-piece bands who have an outstanding bass player and 2 equally outstanding guitarists and drummers. This might not make much sense, so I urge everyone who lives great music to go and see them (you will know what I mean then). Also, Jen's and Chris's voices are amongst the best. Overall, it was an outstanding night.

A propos de False Advertising

In the grand scheme of young bands to care about, Manchester-based alternative trio, False Advertising, present a tantalising prospect. With three years together spent bubbling under the surface of the UK music scene garnering kudos for their chaotic live shows and self-made releases, their niche is now carved, and the stage set for something bigger.

Rounding off last year with a full page feature in NME which praised their brand of slacker-rock as “delightful”, 2018 has seen the band hailed as both media favourites and a certified “band’s band”, with Robert Smith (The Cure) personally inviting them to play his very own Meltdown festival, Steve Lamacq praising their ferocity upon catching their SXSW set, Everything Everything endorsing them as “their favourite new band” live on Radio 1, flavor-of-the-month punks Idles inviting them along for a support stint, and guitarist Jen Hingley being voted 8th ‘Best New Guitarist In The World’ by Total Guitar Magazine.

Set to hit the main stage at Kendal Calling Festival this summer, the band are gearing up for their debut album campaign, set for release in 2019 and marking a period of change for the trio, who feel ready to step things up a gear following their recent string of standalone singles.

Venting the heightened emotions of united frustration at the state of the world through sheer noise and energy, whilst deftly mixing grunge with alternative rock, critics have compared the group to Verruca Salt, The Smashing Pumpkins and Garbage. Lyrically half-pop-culture-junkie, half-moronic-anti-anthem, the instrument-swapping trio’s songs are laced with equal parts of joyful catharsis and dissonance, their rotating line up of front-person and drummer fostering both inclusivity and unpredictability.

Unashamedly independent and multi-disciplinary in their approach, members of False Advertising also work tirelessly behind the scenes on creative projects with a growing list of well-known bands, including production for The Orielles, as well as graphic design work for Arctic Monkeys and Noel Gallagher. A creative force to be reckoned with, they are currently working on their own new album at Paul Epworth’s Church Studios.
