History & Propaganda:

Eight Fingers Down (EFD) was formed in 2001 by Bret and Mike, carving out their place in the San Fernando Valley’s underground punk scene. After a few lineup shifts, Alan (2004) and Nick (2005) completed the crew, solidifying the band’s lineup that fans know today.

Back when the Valley was buzzing with DIY venues, backyard shows, and raw energy, EFD became a cornerstone of what people call the “Valley Sound.” Think of it as the Valley’s answer to Seattle’s grunge—loud, restless, and undeniable. While many of their peers burned out, EFD stuck it out, and with time, became less participants in the scene and more like its forefathers.

EFD channels the spirit of early ’90s punk with a distinctly So-Cal edge. Their sound has been compared to Face to Face colliding with NOFX, but always with their own unapologetic twist. Whether on record or on stage, their songs stick—catchy enough that you’ll leave humming, but tough enough to leave a bruise.

Despite their relatively short run, the band put in the work: 2 full-length albums, 1 EP, half a dozen comps, 7 national tours, and a proud stretch as part of the Warped Tour family. They were relentless—174 shows in their final year alone, including a 5½ month tour.

As of January 2, 2007, EFD decided to hit pause—to rest, write, and, in their words, “get jobs to buy cool things like food.” But their legacy in the Valley scene remains loud and alive.
