A propos de Little Feat

Little Feat
Fifty-two years of great music doesn’t squeeze down to one page very easily. “Dixie Chicken,” “Oh Atlanta,” “Willin’,” “Let it Roll,” “Spanish Moon,” and “Fat Man in the Bathtub” are just the merest hint of a repertoire that has inspired more joy and more dancing than you can imagine. Little Feat fused a broad span of styles and genres into something utterly distinctive, a mix of California rock, funk, folk, jazz, country, rockabilly, and New Orleans swamp boogie and more, all stirred into a rich gumbo that can only be Little Feat.
Their album Waiting for Columbus is a consensus contender for the finest live rock and roll album ever recorded.
Bill Payne (keyboards, vocals), Kenny Gradney (bass), Sam Clayton (percussion and vocals), Fred Tackett (guitars and vocals), Scott Sharrard (guitars and vocals), and Tony Leone (drums) are Little Feat in 2021.
Scott (Gregg Allman Band) and Tony (Olabelle, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Midnight Ramble Band) will be new to most Feat fans. Fortunately, they’ve both crossed paths with the band many times over the past decade, and they fit as elegantly and comfortably as a perfectly broken-in pair of jeans. They were born for this.
More than fifty years in, they’ve been up and they’ve been down and they know where they belong—standing or sitting behind their instruments, playing for you. And anything’s possible, because the end is not in sight.

If it was to be the last Feat show in town, I had to be there. I"ve kinda drifted away from my former Stan Status, but still very much involved in watching as the band remakes itself for the NTH time. And this version certainly had the chops. From opening Let it Roll to Closing Feats, the band kept chugging, dropping in some new material, inviting guests, (Jackson Brown, Miles Tackett, and a female singer I didn't know but who wailed when needed), and doing a lovely acoustic set in the center. Two and a half hours of tight, classic Featness. I was up in the balcony so I could watch Billy play - still don't understand how hands that look so calm can produce that much brilliance, but it's fun to watch. I thought I saw some familiar faces from old online Feat times,Tbut they were all down below, so didn't make any connections with the old gang, but had fun with the balcony bunch.
I've loved the UA theater for years, been doing tours of the place since the 80s, and it's a wonderful venue for a historic band, still looking good, just like the band sounded.
I hope it's not the last live Feat show I see, but if it was, I went out happy. Hope the band did too.

Little Feat Rocked the gardens with 3 jam filled sets offering 22 songs of mostly Little Feat classics with a sprinkling of new tunes. After a long first set they returned for an acoustic one followed by a final electric set and encore.
From the opening Fat Man in the Bathtub the crowd sang along, danced, bopped and grooved the night away. The Feat did not fail us as they transported the West Michigan amphitheater from New Orleans to Chicago, the Islands to the heartland, New York to Atlanta and of course Tucson to Tucumcari.
As a Feat fan for over fifty years I am grateful to have gotten to their final tour and hope y’all can too! Here’s a picture of the set list from the 06/28/2026 show.

Fabulous show at Milwaukee Summerfest! Nice to hear a couple from Let it Roll and some newer stuff. Great jam session on Spanish Moon. Really nice song selection - fit a lot into the time allotted but didn't seem rushed. Shorter version of Dixie Chicken was good choice as it gave them more time for other stuff and to jam. Really seemed like they were enjoying the show as much as we were. Also caught them opening for Avett Brothers at Red Rocks a couple of years ago, but great to see them headlining at Summerfest!
