Początek działalności kultowego, najważniejszego polskiego zespołu thrash metalowego datuje się na rok 1980. Do chwili wydania debiutanckiego singla „ Ostatni tabor/ Noce Szatana”, grupa zdobywała swe szlify podczas sesji nagraniowych dla PR Katowice ( dzięki sesji zespół zaistniał na antenie stacji radiowych w kraju), jak również biorąc też udział w wielu festiwalach rockowych. Ukoronowaniem swej dotychczasowej pracy było zwycięstwo w plebiscycie publiczności na największym w latach 80-90-tych XX w Festiwalu Rockowym Muzyków Młodej Generacji Jarocin 81’. Popularność singla w mediach zaowocowała dłuższa trasa koncertowa u boku fińskiej grupy HANOI ROCKS. Zespół zyskuje wtedy znakomite recenzje czego skutkiem było nagranie debiutanckiego albumu „Metal and hell” dla belgijskiej firmy Ambush Records (maj 1986r) i jej polskiej wersji pt: „666” wydanej przez Klub Płytowy „Razem”. Było to prekursorskie wydawnictwo dla polskiego thrash metalu. Kat nawiązuje współpracę z firmą Metal Mind Productions po czym bierze udział w festiwalu Metalmania („Spodek”- Katowice), wraz z HELLOWEEN, OVERKILL, RUNNING WILD … Na wyjątkową pozycję zespołu poza warstwą muzyczną miały wpływ także teksty wokalisty Romana Kostrzewskiego, oraz bardzo widowiskowe i nowatorskie wówczas, mroczne koncerty z udziałem „baletu wielu rekwizytów”. Występując jako gwiazda na festiwalu Jarocin 86’ zespół zagościł w filmie dla telewizji BBC pt: „ My blood, your blood”, poświęconemu polskiemu rockowi. W lutym 1987r. dwukrotnie występuje w katowickim Spodku z METALLICĄ. W tym samym roku ukazuje się koncertowy album zespołu „38 minutes of life”, zawierający zapisy utworów z Metalmanii i koncertów z METALLICĄ. Kolejna płyta „Oddech wymarłych światów” wydana w 1989r. okazała się wyjątkową pozycją w dyskografii zespołu. Znajdują się tu utwory pełne nowatorskich rozwiązań muzycznych i brzmieniowych. Różnice pomiędzy muzykami spowodowały dwuletnią przerwę z działalności zespołu. Jednak w 1992 r. KAT powraca z płytą „Bastard”, dowodząc, że nadal jest prekursorem thrash metalu. Wiosną 1994r. wydaje album „Ballady”, który ukazuje jego spokojniejsze aczkolwiek niepozbawione zadzioru oblicze. W nagraniu tego materiału gościnnie bierze udział legenda polskiego rocka Józef Skrzek (SBB) . Następnie zaś wiele koncertów , spośród których wartym odnotowania jest wspólny listopadowy koncert z MÖTORHEAD w Zabrzu. 1996 to rok, w którym wydany zostaje album monumentalny i podniosły w warstwie muzycznej i mocno osadzony w thrash metalu „Róże miłości najchętniej przyjmują się na grobach”. W 1998 r. ukazuje się album „Szydercze zwierciadło” , uwieńczony zostaje dużą trasą koncertową. Ze względu na nagłą śmierć głównego gitarzysty Jacka Regulskiego w 1999 r. zespół zawiesza działalność powracając w 2003 r. z olbrzymią i owianą sukcesem trasą koncertową zwaną „Kat on tour again”. W 2005r. na Mystic Festival, na którym gościem był IRON MAIDEN, grupa zarejestrowała płytę dvd pt.: „Somewhere in Poland”. Rekonstrukcja Kata okazała się być niezbyt fortunną. Pożądanym stało się przemianowanie zespołu na KAT & RK i samookreślenie w świadomości fanów, co skutkowało olbrzymim sukcesem na jego trasach koncertowych ostatnich lat i rejestracja nowego dvd koncertowego „Życie po życiu” (Katowice-14.04.07.r.) „Biało- czarna” to najnowsze wydawnictwo studyjne zespołu zarejstrowane na przestrzeni lipca-grudnia 2010 roku.Płyta wydana została przez Mystic Productions w marcu 2011 roku,dochodząc do trzeciego miejsca w rankingu najlepiej sprzedających się płyt w Polsce. Rok 2013 to rok, w którym zespół wraz z Fanami obchodził 33 urodziny grając od Morza po Tatry i od wschodu po zachód kraju naszego jedynego. „Rarities” to najnowsze ( wydane w listopadzie 2013 r. ) jak i przekornie najstarsze wydawnictwo zespołu. Płyta zawiera bowiem utwory zarejstrowane w latach 80-tych, a nigdy dotąd niepublikowane. Uwieńczeniem tego krążka jest trasa koncertowa "Rarities tour 2014”, na której zaprezentowana była spora część materiału pochodzącego z tej płyty. W tym też roku zespół pokusił się o nagranie swoich utworów w wersji akustycznej, co poskutkowalo nowym wydawnictwem pt. „Buk- akustycznie“. Mimo ostrożnego odbioru przez część Fanów, płyta również poszybowała na szczyty sprzedaży. 2015 rok. Idąc w ślad światowych trendów jak i ulegając po trosze podszeptom Fanów zespół ponownie nagrał, w nowych aranżacjach swój pierwszy, kultowy materiał zatytułowany" 666". Płyta bardzo dobrze przyjęta na rynku muzycznym obfitowała dużą ilością koncertów ją promujących. W międzyczasie nastąpiła zmiana gitarzysty w zespole.W miejsce Piotra Radeckiego wstąpił Jacek Hiro z którym Kat&R.K. jest już na półmetku przygotowań nowego auturskiego albumu. The most important band in Polish thrash metal music was formed in year 1980. From the moment their debut singles ..Last camp../ ..Devil..s nights.. were released they received important exposure from local Radio Katowice .That session instigated many a rock festival appearance for the band. KAT..s successful performance as part of the Jarocin Rock Festival in 1981 resulted in them winning the acclaimed Audience Prize. With their popularity in the singles market rising, KAT toured with Finnish legends HANOI ROCKS. Their performances were met with rapturous reviews, and lead to the recording of their debut album ..Metal and hell.. for Belgian Ambush Records (May 1986), and the Polish version titled: ..666.. for Musical Club ..Razem... This was an important precursor for the publishing house, leading to their eventual establishment of & in polish thrash metal. KAT was joined to Metal Mind Productions and in May played at Metalmania ..the biggest Polish festival with HELLOWEEN, OVERKILL and RUNNING WILD. This alliance was to inspire some very spectacular and innovative concerts which even incorporated the use of ballet. As headliners of the Jarocin Rock Festival in 1986, the band starred in a documentary film for BBC Television entitled: ..My blood, your blood.. . This program was dedicated to Polish rock music. In 1987 KAT played in Katowice twice- Spodek with METALLICA and at the Metalmania Festival.That same year they released ..38minutes of life.. comprising the highlights of these two shows. The successive album ..Breath of extinct worlds.. released in 1989 marked an exceptional progression in KAT..s direction.This album displayed a tendency towards a much more modern sound. Musical differences caused the band to take a break for two years but in 1992 KAT returned with a vengeance releasing the ground breaking, genre defying album .. Bastard.. proving they were always one step ahead and a force to be reckoned with. That Summer KAT issued ..Ballads.. which revealed their more sensitive side. Legendary Polish rock music composer JOZEF SKRZEK ( SBB) participated in the recording of this album. An extensive tour followed the album..s release culminating with a concert with MOTORHEAD in Zabrze city. 1996 heralded the release of the monumental, lofty and multi-layered album ..Roses of love mostly grow on graves ... 1998 was the year of ..Jeerings mirror.. followed by an intensive touring schedule. In 2000 KAT underwent a line-up change with the departure of their guitarist who they replaced in 2003 when they hit the road once more with the successful ..KAT on tour again.. In November 2003 the band appeared at the Mistic Festival with IRON MAIDEN, which resulted in the appropriately titled DVD album.. Somewhere in Poland.. (2004). A year later KAT changed the name on KAT & Roman Kostrzewski. Their last official release was a DVD concert taken from the Mega Club in Katowice (April 2007) from the previous tour which ended in February- March of the next year. "White-Black" is the latest release study team yet been recorded for the July-December 2010 .Album was released by Mystic Productions in March 2011, rising to third place in the ranking of best-selling albums in Poland. Year 2013 is the year in which the team celebrated 33rd anniversary playing along with fans from the Sea to the Tatra mountains and from the east to the west of the country. "Rarities" is the latest (released in November 2013) and perversely oldest publishing house band. The CD contains songs not yet been recorded since the 80s, and never before published. The culmination of this album is a tour of "Rarities Tour 2014", which will be presented much of the material from this album. Also in 2014, the band has released an acoustic album „Buk- akustycznie“. The album quickly became the bestseller. In 2015, going along with new trends, the band has re-recorded with new arrangements album „666“. And again, there was a warm welcome to the new album, followed up with many concerts promoting it.
