The Mavericks

I attended the Mavericks concert in Clearwater on Saturday night, September 12th at Ruth Eckerd Hall. Despite this being their 3rd consecutive night of performing, having been in Fort Lauderdale and Orlando the previous 2 nights, this band was outstanding!! Each band member was energized throughout the 2 hour and 10 minute performance!! If you were like me and had doubts about seeing the Mavericks without Raul Malo, eliminate those doubts right now!! James Otto did a wonderful job on vocals and guitar, but to me the star of the show was Emily West. It's now two days after the show and I keep replaying the videos I took just to listen to her sing!! I've listened to Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette, and Linda Ronstadt, among others, but Emily is the best female vocalist I've ever heard!! Do yourself a favor, and go see them in concert!!

The Mavericks and Friends rocked the house last night at the Parker in Fort Lauderdale! Feeling the absence of Raul’s magical, irreplaceable voice and presence…but there to honor and celebrate his life and legacy, nonetheless. His endlessly talented band brothers didn’t disappoint, and James Otto and Emily West, as guest performers, put in super, solid performances… gradually throughout the set, the energy in the room built to a crescendo and level we all expected and needed. That can’t have been easy…yet they made it look that way. Raul is no longer with us here on earth, but his joyful spirit is eternal, and lives on in all who loved him. Thank you, Mavericks and Friends, for a very special and happy evening. Yes, you’ll always be “Raul’s band”, but what great honor, and he’d be so proud! Well done!!! ❤️🎉🎸

The Evening with the Mavericks was better than fabulous!! I'm a New fan just really introduced to the group in the past two months by my guyfriend. After we ordered the tickets he gave to me a USB with music from his four The Mavericks albums. For weeks, I listened and became so excited to see the group in concert. The Knoxville Bijou concert had NO disappointments, as the talent of the instrumentalists and singers was wonderful. I was able to sing and boop along in my seat, intensely engulfed in the whole concert. They love what they do and it shows. Who can beat their beat!

Hey man, great show, wish I coulda brought the dog with me to the Isleta show!! he stayed at home and waited for a report about the show!! i told him u guys f*****g rocked the nation,, everyone of you in the band just brought it,, i was frankly stunned,, no not really i knew guys still were really good, really realy good!! you all have been around.. its a good venue isleta is,, take your drink jack and coke and a f*****g Michelob a couple times, back to the seat then keep watching the show,,, aisle seats always get an aisle so it is easier can go to the can and get some more booze.. the dog he drank with me when i got home,, the dog,, when i got home chicken soaked in vodka sincerely.. bruce an the dog "buddy"

The warm up band, Jason Scott, was awesome. We really went to see the Mavericks so I can't comment on Dwight Yokam., as we drove 4 hours and left after the Mavs. Sorry, Dwight! The Mavs were absolutely amazing, as always. So great to see Raul up and awesome. Prayers to him and the whole band! Can't wait for the next show! We had tickets to the Ryman in December, but had lost a good friend to cancer two days before the show, so we had to cancel so this show was that much more special.

The Beacon Theater is a great venue for concerts. The best tickets are in the loge or balcony so you generally have unobstructed views. In the Orchestra,too many people,even those in the front rows,have to stand up and gyrate during the show.Therefore,you may have difficulty seeing the stage.As for the show, I have been a long time fan of both the Mavericks and Dwight Yoakam,so seeing them perform on the same bill was amazing. Raul Malo has one of the all time great voices. The group is comprised of terrific musicians.The horn section, including accordian,was great.They played many hits,some sung by Malo in Spanish. They are high energy at times.At other times,Malo can sing a ballad as well as anyone. They played for 75 mins,following an opening act's 20 minute set. Following the Mavericks, Dwight Yoakam was terrific.At first,he played several songs without a break.He then says he was told " to talk" between songs. He then played many great hits from his long career. He is a pleasure to watch perform. One band member played the keyboard,steel guitar,fiddle,accordian,maracas, and tambourine.He also sang backup vocals at times.Great music from a band of 4 in addition to Dwight. I loved hearing many of his earlier hits.This was truly a great night to remember

Another tremendous show and the Ryman is such a terrific venue. The band was full of energy as usual. The only disappointment was their second horn (Lorenzo Molina?) wasn't there until almost the end of the concert. He really adds a lot of power with his horn and brings a lot of the enthusiasm to the show. Malo's voice continues to be the highlight of their sound. They are a wonderful band displaying so many different musical genres contributing to their unique sound and style. McFadden (keyboards) Deakin (drums) and Perez (guitar) had their usual strong performances. The accordion player is also a very bright spot with his contribution to their sound and his showmanship and enthusiasm. They will be touring in 2025 and are worthy of your time.

Sometimes it is a good idea to team up artists on tour—I generally find it it NOT. The Mavericks’ opening act was a country band and I believe they were talented musicians but I don’t like that kind of music. It’s like rap music—it all sounds the same to me. I gritted my teeth through their set although it was apparent lots of other people like them. The Mavericks-a band I have travelled to see and whose music I love—were good. Their musicianship was typically great but the energy of the band seemed less than 100 %. Maybe the energy level was 90%. It was hot and Smokey at the venue so maybe that contributed to that. I was disappointed Eddie Perez was absent (I hope he is OK and was just taking the night off). The player who filled in for him was pretty good but he’s not quite a fitted member of the team. Finally, splitting the bill with Dwight Yoakum meant the Mavericks’ set was abbreviated. That was disappointing but that was the deal the artists made—I knew I wasn’t going to get a full dose of Maverick goodness. I left the concert and skipped Dwight Yoakum. He is an accomplished artist with many fans. I just don’t care for his music.

I love attending shows at the Arsht Center. What a wonderful venue with great sight lines and excellent audio. We have seen The Mavericks in concert a few times prior to this, but felt this program fell short. First, while we appreciated having a warmup act to give everyone extra time to get to the theater, this particular act was not in keeping with the mood usually set by the Mavericks. While the lead singer had a great voice, the music was cranked up way too loud. The sound was deafening and we could understand very little. Because of the pre-show, the actual time the Mavs played was shortened. Their portion of the show was disappointing also. The first half was just flat. They played newer songs and a slow number that just dragged. You could feel the energy drain out of the crowd. We watched some people near us get up and leave! The band finally started cooking in the latter half, playing songs that are their best, and the audience was rocking and dancing to the last 3 or 4 songs. The good part was great but, overall, it was a disappointing evening.

Been wanting to see the Mavericks for many moons. And finally saw them in Montgomery ,Al PAC. WOW!! I've been going to concerts for over 50yrs and they were AWESOME! Lead singers vocals were spot On. The Lead guitarist , Drummer ( which I Am) was the Best Solid drummer I've seen, The Brass section, The guy playing the Acordion, the keyboardist, Bass Player, This Band brought the Smoke!! And Loved Do It! Great Entertainers!! Big Bang for The Buck!! Not a Great Crowd turn out, but That didn't Stop these guys. They came to the stage to do what they were supposed to do and have Fun doing it. If ever the Mavericks come close to me again in the future, Count me THERE!! Fantastic Show! If you've never seen The Mavericks, you are missing out for sure. Put it on your Bucket List to see this Great Band!! They had an opening act with Patrick Sweeney! This guy has So much Soul and Blues coming out of Him, what and act. Check this guy out too. Patrick Sweeney!!! To the Mavericks. Thank You! For coming close to central Alabama, Please Come Back!! Me and the Wife never had so much FUN!! Hope to see ya'll again SOON! THANK YOU!!!!

Wow! Last night’s concert did not disappoint! From the minute you stepped into the restored United Artists Theater at the Ace Hotel you were nostalgically transported back to the days when the old time movie palaces ruled; the smell of popcorn hits you as soon as you enter and I was taken back to my childhood growing up in East Los Angeles, and to when my parents would take us into downtown to see a movie at theaters like this, some of which harken back to the 20’s and 30’s. I loved JD McPherson’s set; his wry lyrical take on Christmas is some of the best I’ve heard, and his musicianship kept the place rocking and rolling throughout. Of course, The Mavericks were on point, as usual! Raul’s voice, considering this was the last stop of the tour until the New Year, was as fresh and vibrant as ever. “Come Unto Me” was hypnotic and trance-inducing; the spell was broken and people rose to their feet to dance when the opening strums of “Dance in The Moonlight” were heard, and the band stirred the audience to a frenzy with their signature closing song “All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down”, which brought the house down! And, if that was enough to whip up your appetite for a post-show snack, as soon as the doors opened to let people out, you were greeted by the smell of peppers and onions as sidewalk vendors sold the inimitable Mexican hotdogs right outside the venue! A wonderful Holiday treat for myself, my wife, my sister and her hubby! Hey! Merry Christmas!!

I have seen The Mavericks many, many times since they reunited ten years ago and they have consistently been one of the best live bands out there making the rounds. In the beginning, it felt like each concert was a special event and that the evening could unfold in any direction at the whim of lead maestro Raul Malo. There was an air of danger, uncertainty and excitement at these outings, and they always delivered a powerhouse, epic show. Fast forward several years and now I hate to say that they have become utterly... predictable. This is not to take anything away from their musicianship and showmanship. But they have been essentially stuck on autopilot since their return to the stage following the pandemic. They perform basically the same setlist every night (with a few substitutions here and there) with the same arrangements and the same stage schtick. Where did the spontaneity and danger go? It almost seems like they have just settled into a comfortable groove and they are kind of phoning it in at this point. Admittedly, any band should be so lucky to be phoning it in at this level. Nonetheless, compared to the live act they were 5-10 years ago, it is quite a tumble from greatness. Regarding their show at Tilles Center. Meh, it was alright.

I couldn’t love The Mavericks any more than I already do, so they automatically get two snaps and a circle, but oh, were they on fire at the Apollo Saturday night in London! Before the show started, in honor of the passing of Her Majesty the Queen, they arranged to have “God Save the Queen/King played, and the audience went wild with emotion…everyone stood and sang and cried all at once. It was very appropriate and enthusiastically and gratefully received. The show itself was phenomenal, in true Mavericks fashion, with everyone’s energy high and in tip top form. They played every song the fans wanted to hear, and then some! They just kept going! In the middle of the show, Raul offered a heartfelt moment of reflection and tribute to the late monarch and offered sincere condolences to the mostly UK audience. Not a dry eye in the house. I noticed they sang three songs in a row about the moon…(Blue Moon, Amsterdam Moon, and Harvest Moon)…was it a full moon?!? They played three songs for their encore, and really brought the house down. To top it off, they even stayed on stage for quite a while afterwards,and shook hands with as many enthusiastic fans as they could! I was one of them…so happy to have had the opportunity to meet Mr. Malo in the flesh! I waited two years to fly to London just to see this show, and it was worth every second! I brought a date too…who now can be counted as a brand new Mavericks fan! Thanks to Mr. Malo and his amazing band of fine musicians, for throwing the best party we’ve ever been to!

The concert was absolutely brilliant 🤩. The Mavericks certainly know how to put on a very polished show which appeals to any age. How many Band’s today can write their own music and deliver with such conviction, still touring after 30 years, sounding better and better and sound just the same “live,” if not better, as they do on any of their recordings !!!!! Raul is a genius. His singing range is second to none, whereas he can sing anything and also brilliant musician. Equally the other Band members are brilliant musicians which make up the iconic THE MAVERICKS. Love these guys,

I didn't get to go but I heard it was fantastic as the Mavericks usually are. I have mobility issues and am a disabled person who has diseases and mobility issues. I struggle to drive and out of town has become too difficult for me to navigate. I had music friends going that I have known now for almost 10 years, one lives here in Richmond, but they can't be bothered to help anyone out. When I was healthy and well I was the one who helped everyone. I was in the thick of everything and am a people person and very social. Life changed in a blink of an eye. It's been 18 years and people are about as selfish and unkind as they can be. I try very hard not to be a burden to anyone and to hide my pain and diseases. When I go out I put a smile on my face and push as hard as I can. I want to enjoy and have fun also and I love the Mavericks. They were playing at the Paramount where I could sit down and that is a necessity these days. I can't stand on my feet any longer. It would have been the perfect night to see the Mav's but I didn't get to go because people can't be bothered to just let me ride up to C'ville with them. I see the Ukraine's all helping each other, not pushing, or selfish and unkind. They are a real community and are all for the good of every single person. In America my own music friends who I met because of music and at shows can't even be bothered to give a sick and disabled person a ride. That is all I needed...a ride. I can sit alone as I talk to people and am independent. I don't mind that. What I do mind is being made to feel like I am worth people's time. They have gobs more money that I do but I would have even pitched in on gas money. I always do my fair share. I am so sorry that the Mavericks won't play in Richmond, VA. If they ever do.....I will be there!!

It was fabulous. Our friend, Country Don, came down from central Florida where he lives to attend this show with us. He knew the Mavericks in Miami, where they got their start and before they became well known. There was an added good feel moment. Don bought a t-shirt and CD and left the package under his seat and no one realized it until we were home (Lake Worth). So Friday morning early he started calling the Playhouse leaving a message each time. A little later in the afternoon a gentleman by the name of Ricardo called with the good news that he had Don's package. Kudos to the Playhouse and their host of honest employees. In today's world we did not think the package would be back in Don's hands. THANK YOU FOR A FABULOUS SHOW, CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE.

I was delighted with our seats!!! So glad to see the Mavericks back on stage...I will admit that i was getting upset with several of the other attendees that kept dancing on their feet right in front of the handicapped area where the poor older folks could not see the stage...all they could do was ask each other if they could see anything. I strongly suggest that one of your employees should be sensitive to those key areas where those ticket holders cannot stand and at least fend for themselves and ask some to not be so oblivious. My wife has not been to the Eckerd Hall since the Doobie Brothers (we lived in California), so it was a thrill to be back. Our goal for all future shows will be Row Q seats 13/14. Keep the quality of the shows coming.

I have seen The Mavericks many, many times since they reunited ten years ago and they have consistently been one of the best live bands out there making the rounds. In the beginning, it felt like each concert was a special event and that the evening could unfold in any direction at the whim of lead maestro Raul Malo. There was an air of danger, uncertainty and excitement at these outings, and they always delivered a powerhouse, epic show. Fast forward several years and now I hate to say that they have become utterly... predictable. This is not to take anything away from their musicianship and showmanship. But they have been essentially stuck on autopilot since their return to the stage following the pandemic. They perform basically the same setlist every night (with a few substitutions here and there) with the same arrangements and the same stage schtick. Where did the spontaneity and danger go? It almost seems like they have just settled into a comfortable groove and they are kind of phoning it in at this point. Admittedly, any band should be so lucky to be phoning it in at this level. Nonetheless, compared to the live act they were 5-10 years ago, it is quite a tumble from greatness. Regarding their show at Tilles Center. Meh, it was alright.

I couldn’t love The Mavericks any more than I already do, so they automatically get two snaps and a circle, but oh, were they on fire at the Apollo Saturday night in London! Before the show started, in honor of the passing of Her Majesty the Queen, they arranged to have “God Save the Queen/King played, and the audience went wild with emotion…everyone stood and sang and cried all at once. It was very appropriate and enthusiastically and gratefully received. The show itself was phenomenal, in true Mavericks fashion, with everyone’s energy high and in tip top form. They played every song the fans wanted to hear, and then some! They just kept going! In the middle of the show, Raul offered a heartfelt moment of reflection and tribute to the late monarch and offered sincere condolences to the mostly UK audience. Not a dry eye in the house. I noticed they sang three songs in a row about the moon…(Blue Moon, Amsterdam Moon, and Harvest Moon)…was it a full moon?!? They played three songs for their encore, and really brought the house down. To top it off, they even stayed on stage for quite a while afterwards,and shook hands with as many enthusiastic fans as they could! I was one of them…so happy to have had the opportunity to meet Mr. Malo in the flesh! I waited two years to fly to London just to see this show, and it was worth every second! I brought a date too…who now can be counted as a brand new Mavericks fan! Thanks to Mr. Malo and his amazing band of fine musicians, for throwing the best party we’ve ever been to!

The concert was absolutely brilliant 🤩. The Mavericks certainly know how to put on a very polished show which appeals to any age. How many Band’s today can write their own music and deliver with such conviction, still touring after 30 years, sounding better and better and sound just the same “live,” if not better, as they do on any of their recordings !!!!! Raul is a genius. His singing range is second to none, whereas he can sing anything and also brilliant musician. Equally the other Band members are brilliant musicians which make up the iconic THE MAVERICKS. Love these guys,

I didn't get to go but I heard it was fantastic as the Mavericks usually are. I have mobility issues and am a disabled person who has diseases and mobility issues. I struggle to drive and out of town has become too difficult for me to navigate. I had music friends going that I have known now for almost 10 years, one lives here in Richmond, but they can't be bothered to help anyone out. When I was healthy and well I was the one who helped everyone. I was in the thick of everything and am a people person and very social. Life changed in a blink of an eye. It's been 18 years and people are about as selfish and unkind as they can be. I try very hard not to be a burden to anyone and to hide my pain and diseases. When I go out I put a smile on my face and push as hard as I can. I want to enjoy and have fun also and I love the Mavericks. They were playing at the Paramount where I could sit down and that is a necessity these days. I can't stand on my feet any longer. It would have been the perfect night to see the Mav's but I didn't get to go because people can't be bothered to just let me ride up to C'ville with them. I see the Ukraine's all helping each other, not pushing, or selfish and unkind. They are a real community and are all for the good of every single person. In America my own music friends who I met because of music and at shows can't even be bothered to give a sick and disabled person a ride. That is all I needed...a ride. I can sit alone as I talk to people and am independent. I don't mind that. What I do mind is being made to feel like I am worth people's time. They have gobs more money that I do but I would have even pitched in on gas money. I always do my fair share. I am so sorry that the Mavericks won't play in Richmond, VA. If they ever do.....I will be there!!

It was fabulous. Our friend, Country Don, came down from central Florida where he lives to attend this show with us. He knew the Mavericks in Miami, where they got their start and before they became well known. There was an added good feel moment. Don bought a t-shirt and CD and left the package under his seat and no one realized it until we were home (Lake Worth). So Friday morning early he started calling the Playhouse leaving a message each time. A little later in the afternoon a gentleman by the name of Ricardo called with the good news that he had Don's package. Kudos to the Playhouse and their host of honest employees. In today's world we did not think the package would be back in Don's hands. THANK YOU FOR A FABULOUS SHOW, CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE.

I was delighted with our seats!!! So glad to see the Mavericks back on stage...I will admit that i was getting upset with several of the other attendees that kept dancing on their feet right in front of the handicapped area where the poor older folks could not see the stage...all they could do was ask each other if they could see anything. I strongly suggest that one of your employees should be sensitive to those key areas where those ticket holders cannot stand and at least fend for themselves and ask some to not be so oblivious. My wife has not been to the Eckerd Hall since the Doobie Brothers (we lived in California), so it was a thrill to be back. Our goal for all future shows will be Row Q seats 13/14. Keep the quality of the shows coming.
