Exceptional. My face hurt from laughing so hard. A hilarious, relevant and clever show by two very talented people. Come back to Manchester soon!

A propos de Bourgeois & Maurice

Part-cabaret, part-theatre, part-catwalk freakshow, Georgeois Bourgeois and Maurice Maurice are a musical cabaret duo with style as sharp as their wit.

Their original songs blend unashamedly catchy pop hooks with bitingly satirical lyrics, taking on a vast range of important human issues, from reptilian conspiracy theories to the eroticization of the finance sector.

As one of London’s leading cabaret acts they have performed in some of the UK’s most prestigious venues including the Royal Opera House, Southbank Centre, Roundhouse, Wales Millennium Centre and the Royal Academy of Arts. They have enjoyed sell-out shows at Edinburgh Fringe Festival and also toured the music festival circuit with appearances at Glastonbury, Latitude, Bestival, Electric Picnic and Lovebox, among others.

Their debut show ‘Social Work’ (2009) sold out its run at Soho Theatre and has subsequently been performed throughout the UK, winning them five-star reviews, an Argus Angel Award and a nomination for Best Cabaret Act in the Latest 7 Awards.

In 2010 they premiered their second show ‘Shedding Skin’ at Queer Up North in Manchester before taking it to Soho Theatre in London for a fortnight’s run, followed by a UK and European tour.

Later that year they were invited to show off their considerable lack of dance-skill at one of the world’s leading dance houses, Sadler’s Wells in London. The resulting critically-acclaimed show, ‘Can’t Dance’, ran for three weeks over Christmas.

In September 2011 the duo teamed up with a drummer and guitarist to form The Bourgeois & Maurice Band, which ran for four-weeks at Soho Theatre for Christmas 2011.

Always wearing custom-made clothing from some of London’s most exciting new designers, the duo have also contributed a double-spread of sartorial wisdom to Time Out London’s 2009 Fashion Week special, edited by Gareth Pugh, and won London’s Alternative Eurovision in 2010 with their fashion-forward electro pop nightmare ‘Out Outfit You’.

Proving that they are capable of being nice to strangers and making friends, despite appearances to the contrary, the past four years has seen them collaborate with animators, film-makers, playwrights and choreographers. In 2010 they contributed music for a collaborative project at Theatre 503 inspired by the British coalition government. Other musical collaborations include ‘Don’t Google Me, Mother’ with drag artist Jonny Woo and ‘This Song’ with electronic dance duo Joe & Will Ask?.
