A propos de The Red Shift

We’re not commies, and we’re definitely not bible salesmen; just three guys in red ties playing punk music the way it should be. No love songs, no solos and no tune over three minutes long. Rooted in 70s punk and 50s rockabilly, if the Ramones got into a barroom brawl with Carl Perkins this is what it would sound like. Combining three chord guitar riffs, melodic bass lines, chain gang sing-a-longs and a rockabilly backbeat, the Red Shift writes and performs all original music. Marky strangles his guitar like a dictator on a rampage and leads the Shift into battle with his commanding vocals while Scotty walks the fret board like its nobody’s business and Jerry fills out the rhythm section with his dead-steady backbeats. Themes range from songs about deviants and drunkards to politics and criminals, all of which are related in one way or another. Having recorded and produced their first two albums independently, the Red Shift went into the studio to record the seven song EP “I Don’t Wanna Get Gassed” then followed up with "Just Another Red Scare", a full length release. Having established themselves with veteran and novice acts alike, the band is converting the masses one show at a time.
Turn it up this is Red Shift Radio.

The Red Shift’s unique blend of old school punk and 50’s era rock n’ roll have solidified them among Punks and Greasers alike. The Red Shift is an authentic old style Detroit punk band that has performed around Michigan and the Midwest from 2001-2008. The Red Shift released their 14 song LP “Just Another Red Scare” in 2006 as a follow up to their groundbreaking 2004 release “I Don’t Wanna Get Gassed”, on Jacknife Records. The Red Shift has been featured on the local stage at the Van’s Warped Tour, Metro Times Blowout, the Motor City Music Convention, and Art’s Beat’s and Eat’s in Pontiac as well as having been featured on radio stations such as Rancid Radio on XM Satellite Radio, The Underground Garage on Sirius Satellite Radio, the 89X Homeboy Show, WIDR in Kalamazoo, WGRD in Grand Rapids, WCMU in Mt. Pleasant, WXOU in Rochester, WCBN in Ann Arbor, along with many other internet radio stations.

National bands the Red Shift has played with include: Rancid, H2O, Mustard Plug, Citizen Fish, Millions of Dead Cops, Flatfoot 56, Eight Bucks Experiment, the Pink Spiders, the Koffin Kats, the Independents, the Queers, the U.S. Bombs, the Eyeliners, Love Equals Death, the Twistin’ Tarantulas, the Boils, Angel City Outcasts, the God Awfuls, and the Hollow Points.

"The Red Shift play punk the way it's supposed to be played: as a trio. The Shift are like The Ramones or The Queers or some other band that "borrowed generously" from The Ramones plus a wee bit of rock-a-billy. This is rock and roll, people. The Red Shift are like old-school Green Day cross-breeding with a Brian Setzer who's content to keep his songs completely power-chords. They're "not commies," but they do wear white shirts and red ties ... and they kick ass.” Real Detroit Weekly
