Formed in late 2013 and completing their full line-up in March of 2014, from the ashes of Beat to Quarters and Gold Plated Hollowpoint, In The Wake was born. Hailing from Akron/Canton, OH, Matt, Myk, Shawn, John, and Nate have meticulously pieced together a progressive metal band with hints of Thrash, Metalcore, and Death metal. In The Wake is influenced by Periphery, Lamb of God, Opeth, In Flames and many more. With over 50 years of combined experience, they have forged a diverse sound highlighted by soaring melodies, downright nasty breakdowns, illustrious breakbeats, and punctuated with a positive message. In The Wake will instantly be recognized as inimitable in the local scene. For guitarist Matt, a former member of Beat To Quarters, composition and music theory have always been big priorities. At five years old he learned the piano, shortly thereafter picking up the trumpet, and eventually the guitar. In his own words, “I grew up listening to Motown and Classic Rock. Music has always been an adventure to me, and after getting into heavy metal in middle school, I haven’t thought about doing anything else!”

Their bassist, Myk, picked up his first bass in 2002, shortly after moving to Corpus Christi, TX where he fell into the music scene. He is a former member of Gold Plated Hollowpoint. From eighties metal to grindcore, Mike has an extremely diverse background and he brings the subsonic force that adds to ITW’s impressive sound. “Music has always been what has saved me, so I wanted to give back and potentially save someone else.”

For guitarist Shawn, his musical career started at age seven with his first guitar. A self-taught musician, rarely will you see him playing something that isn’t an original. With a background playing in bands from acoustic to heavy, he fits the bill for the talent he possesses and that ITW requires. “I use music to help center me. To me it’s all about hearing and feeling the music. I look forward to, and immensely enjoy playing live because there is no greater rush.”

Their drummer, John, received his first drum kit at age thirteen and hasn’t looked back since. A self-taught musician, he joined his first band at the age of eighteen. He is also a former member of Beat To Quarters, as well as several other local bands throughout his tenure. Playing from heavy to mellow, he is well-rounded and ready to provide the foundation for ITW’s uniquely awesome sound. As John would say, “Here I am, now thirty years old, and playing music STILL tickles my balls. I fucking love it!”

Lastly, but certainly not least, is their vocalist Nate. He is the former vocalist of Beat To Quarters. Nate has the experience and the drive to scream his heart out for your enjoyment. Since 2008, he has been involved in several projects, all the while sharpening his skills with a microphone. With the guidance of “The Zen of Screaming”, Nate improves his skills every day. “I love music because it has literally saved my life. It gave me hope and a reason to breathe when nothing else was looking up for me. Metal in particular has influenced me so much with the wide spectrum of emotions it exhibits.”

Needless to say, these guys aren’t messing around. Filling the atmosphere with beautiful compositions and crushing tones, In The Wake is ready to take the music world head-on. Striving to put on killer concerts with remarkable light shows, that not only amazes the eyes and ears, but the soul as well. All members of the band can agree on this - they strive to put out a positive message to their listeners. “We want our listeners to feel the music we are making; not necessarily to win the entire room, but if we can reach at least one person…it was worth it!”
