Scorched Earth is a project founded by saxophonist/composer/arranger Chris Bowden and guitarist/singer-songwriter Mike Gates. 'Resistance to the Passage of Sound' explores a free-thinking, flexible, heartfelt approach towards making music, resulting in a multi dimensional, cross-genre album encompassing contemporary acoustic/jazz/rock/roots styles. The overall 'feel' to the album could be said to take in influences from John Martyn to Weather Report, Pink Floyd to John Coltrane. Mike Gates has built a solid reputation on the live circuit, especially in the Midlands and Chris Bowden has for the past 10 years been a leading musician on the UK jazz scene and beyond, recording for Soul Jazz and Ninja Tune, working with 4 Hero and playing in The Herbaliser and The Heritage Orchestra, amongst many other projects. Acoustic folk/jazz/ambient out-there loveliness. Mike Gates on guitars/effects, Chris Bowden on saxes/keys, Simon Smith, acoustic & electric bass + others
