A propos de Velvet Engine

Velvet Engine, the brainchild of Latina Northamptonian San-D Godoy, emerged enthusiastically into our lives and our hearts at the start of 2008. After numerous positive reviews, tours and radio airplay, she introduced occasional band members and in 2012, released her long-awaited debut release 'Glimpse Of The Sun', a collection of songs which have been described as "Yearning Alt-Folk, with a sprightly but reflective soul". Counting Laura Marling, Neil Young and Daughter amongst her many influences. Now having released her 2nd EP 'This Old Hat', we can expect great things from this new breed of heart-warming pop folk music and Velvet Engine will be sure to drive it in the right direction with her catalogue of honest yet timid and catchy songs. Honest and heartfelt (if sometimes a little melancholy), Velvet Engine exude soft and soulful femininity. A pleasant reprise from the days tribulations, these are the perfect sounds to cup-of-tea to. True-life lyrics float effortlessly on hair raising vocals, delicate guitarmanship and “glittering glockenspiels”. This is sweet, smile inducing folky goodness…this is real poetry. - Hoxton Amp "a record filled with romance and heartache alike. Crystalline vocals, mellow guitars and glittering glockenspiels feature throughout from the innocence of Another Colour and Two Winters In A Row to Like A Scar's rootsy sorrow - two great live performers captured on record. The EP rarely lacks: each song different enough to retain its grip without shooting itself in the foot by becoming too bland. This is really quite lovely..." - Bedge Music Northampton Music Festival Review - Despite the recent stint of thunder and rain the weather held off throughout the day and helped to draw in the crowds at many of the stages including those smaller stages along Abington Street. These stages were ideal for local acoustic artists to perform turning the otherwise bustling street into a tranquil and intimate setting. One act that stood out were Velvet Engine, a two piece performing a collection of their own music including the tracks 'Wishing It Away' and 'Going Home'. ' Herald & Post Next up was Velvet Engine, a duo with a very old-school folky vibe. Indeed, quite well-suited to wherever folk music on the bill, there is also a bit of an insistent vocal edge at times. Of note, and showing a fair bit of creative flair, Velvet Engine’s fourth song of the night was a cover of Ghostpoet’s “Meltdown,” which they adapted quite seemlessly to their own style. Well done, indeed. - Geoff Wilbur Blog For bookings please contact San-D at velvet_engine@hotmail.co.uk Yearning alt-folk with a sprightly but reflective soul...
