A propos de Urania

Urania is an indie rock/pop band from Fort Worth, Texas. The band is a coehsive amalgamation of various styles of music from classic rock to latin, bound together by tight pop formats with an idie rock flair. The lead singer and guitar player, Robin Glaysher, who also goes by the band's namesake, Urania, was schooled at the Musician's Institute in Hollywood, California and is the band's songwriter. She draws her inspiration from such female rockers as Alanis Morissette, Courtney Love, Pink, Gwen Stefani and Sheryl Crow. She is also heavily inspired by late 60's British rock. Not one to shy away from trying something a little different, she recently purchased a pair of red velvet high-heeled magic slippers that she wears to local shows. Bass player Donna Sheahen has been playing the local Fort Worth music scene for a number of years, including with the Women of Rock tribute band. Sheahen originally met Urania at the Ridgelea Theatre open mic night in 2008, but recently reconnected with her via a Craig's list posting. She committed to the band once she recalled the wild response to Urania's "Mediocre Lives" by the open mic crowd, and decided she also wanted to cash in on the success of the song, but refuses to wear her pair of red velvet high-heeled magic slippers, gifted to her by Urania. Donna's influences are classic rock, in particular The Who. Drummer Tony Peña, originally from Venezuela, met Urania via a telephone call resulting from Fort Worth's Guitar Center bulletin board post. Peña wasn't convinced to join the band until Urania, who is originally from Spain, spoke to him in Spanish and told him she could also sing La Bamba. Well known in the local Latin music scene, Peña decided to take the risk of joining a band with two female rock and rollers...but swore to never wear any red velvet high-heeled magic slippers. Besides a host of latin drummers whom he idolizes, Pena has a penchant for the Spanish rock group Mecano, the king of Latin crossover classic rock, Santana, The Police and Tower of Power. If you want to break the ice with Tony, bring him some Chinese food and a Modelo Negra...you"ll be BFFs forever. With intelligent lyrics slanted towards a woman's point of view, Urania brings a unique combination of musical flavors to pop-formatted indie rock songs that are rare in the Dallas - Fort Worth area. Urania is an indie rock/pop band from Fort Worth, Texas. The trio blends rock, classic rock and latin sounds, creating fun pop songs with catchy lyrics. We invite you to like us.
