Kaleo Sansaa is an artist from Berlin who immediately mesmerizes audiences with
her unique sound. Using the neologisms Sund-Drunk Sound and Solar-Based Hip
Hop, she tries to capture the essence of her music: A sound that seems to come
from the heart of the sun; authentic, honest and meditative. Solar-Based HipHop is
the pure expression of the soul and is characterized primarily by hypnotic,

experimental hip-hop beats. At the core of her message is Kaleo Sansaa's "Solar-
Based Philosophy" - the belief that the sun never truly sets for mankind. The artist

describes the sun as her greatest inspiration and also pays tribute to it in her name
"SANSAA": SAN=SUN (German for sun) and "SAA" (Swahili) for "time". After the
release of her two EPs "Purple Moon" and "Paradise not Lost", Kaleo Sansaa
released her debut album "SOLARBASED KWING" on March 26, 2021, which
impresses all along the line with strong content, innovative sound and beautiful
melodies.
In poetic lines, the eleven songs talk about self-empowerment, healing of traumas
and the responsibility to face one's own life with radical self-love and fulfillment. For
example, the song "Holy Alliance" describes Kaleo Sansaa's philosophical view of
consciously choosing to live a life worth striving for. While on "Big Boy" she
addresses the discrimination of female rage, which she recognizes as a tremendous
strength and coping strategy for her, on "Eat" she performs a sarcastic critique of
blackfishing and cultural appropriation. The standout single "Black Light" is
dedicated to Afrofuturist Sun Ra and bids farewell to a time of trauma and pain -
instead, from the light, Sansaa is born. With her music, Kaleo empowers Sansaa to
believe in her own strengths and dreams while showing how she puts her own into
action.She underlines her radiance with mantra-like flows, rushing rap passages and
a powerful singing voice, which she knows how to use from soft to angry and dark.
Kaleo Sansaa has already been nominated for a number of awards across Europe: in
2018 she won the award for Best Music Video at the Berlin Short Film Festival and
was nominated for the POP NRW Award in 2019. With her new album
"SOLARBASED KWING", Kaleo Sansaa toured numerous German media outlets and
gave interviews for Musikexpress, Rosa Mag, WDR Cosmo, WDR 3 and
Deutschlandfunk Kultur, among others. After a concert break due to the pandemic,
she finally played on big stages again and won over audiences at Dockville as wellas Pop-Kultur Berlin and Ruhrtriennale.
