In what may be described as a meeting of musical worlds, the first shimmering notes of Chao Tian’s hammered dulcimer—each strike a crystalline echo of ancient Chinese heritage—the audience was transported. Her virtuosic command of the yangqin was nothing short of mesmerizing, weaving intricate melodies that danced effortlessly with the earthy twang of Cathy Fink’s banjo and the warm resonance of Marcy Marxer’s cello banjo and mandolin.
