Boho Strings Antwerp is a Belgian string ensemble founded by conductor David
Ramael and violinist Jessica Tortorice. Known for imaginative programming, the
ensemble explores the psychological dimensions of music and the human experiences
embedded within it. Rather than presenting repertoire as historical artifacts, Boho treats
music as a living artistic document, revealing enduring themes such as memory,
transformation, conflict, and imagination.

Its performances have drawn international praise, with Gramophone writing:
“The number of string ensembles active may be considerable but Boho Strings is
second to none in terms of its dynamism and unanimity of response.”

Boho Strings Antwerp has appeared in many of Belgium’s leading concert venues,
including Bozar (Brussels), deSingel (Antwerp), Concertgebouw Brugge, De
Bijloke (Ghent), Flagey (Brussels), and De Roma (Antwerp). The ensemble has also
performed internationally, including appearances at the Murten Classics Festival in
Switzerland, and is currently preparing major international touring projects that will
further expand its artistic presence abroad.

The ensemble has developed a distinctive artistic profile through concept-driven
productions such as In Deep Silenceand Echoes of a Theme, which place
contemporary works in dialogue with the classical repertoire. Boho Strings Antwerp
collaborates regularly with internationally acclaimed soloists and composers and
actively commissions new works that expand the string orchestra repertoire.

Beyond the concert stage, Boho also develops projects that connect music with broader
human and social questions. The ensemble collaborated with journalist Phara de
Aguirre on the VRT documentary Vibrato. Leven met Parkinson, created in partnership
with the Vlaamse Parkinson Liga, exploring the relationship between music and life
with Parkinson’s disease.

Boho Strings Antwerp also brings the insights of musical collaboration into the business
world through its Listening Leadership workshop, presented internationally for
organizations including Stolt Tankers, the Baden-Baden Unternehmergespräche,
and John Cockerill.

Through its performances, commissions, and interdisciplinary initiatives, Boho Strings
Antwerp continues to build a distinctive artistic profile rooted in interpretive depth,
intellectual curiosity, and a profound engagement with the human experience reflected
in music.
