A propos de Amelie Simpson
Amelie Simpson is a 16-year-old singer, songwriter and guitarist. Originally from London, England and raised in California, she has earned an international following at an early age. She is known for her bluesy-style vocals and rhythm guitar playing.
Originally from London, England, she has lived in San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
At the age nine she started playing the guitar after receiving the instrument as a Christmas gift. She learned songs by watching YouTube videos from online guitar teachers Justin Sandercoe and Marty Schwartz. Two years later, at the age of 11 she began to post her own cover versions of songs on her original YouTube channel and she started performing at local open mic nights in San Diego. She originally performed as part of a duo with her younger brother Baxter Simpson, also a self-taught musician.
In 2015 Simpson's family relocated to San Francisco. Her musical taste, as well as her combination of sass and confidence, quickly made her a favorite of the Bay Area music scene. She performed in the Alameda's Got Talent variety show, playing weekly at the historic Alameda Theater. She also frequently played at the Starry Plough near the University of California, Berkeley campus, a venue famous for launching the career of the Counting Crows.
Simpson made her debut at the San Diego County in 2016, playing a 90-minute set on the Showcase stage. She has performed at venues throughout California, including the 2018 Carlsbad Marathon, Northstar at Lake Tahoe, Lestat's, Lush Lounge, Black Pug Cafe, High Street Station Cafe, La Costa Coffee, Cuyamaca College, Cinema Grill, Public Square Coffee, Wholly Crepe, Octopus Literary Salon, Alameda Natural Grocery, Univ Studio, Park Street Plaza, Alameda Art Walk, and San Francisco's world famous Ferry Building.
Simpson has played with numerous professional musicians, including YouTube guitar star Marty Schwartz, jazz drummer Myron Cohen, blues guitar player Larrie Noble, Sr. and percussionist Jon Otis.
In 2017 Simpson won the inaugural song competition on justinguitar.com for her cover of Me and Bobby McGee, competing against musicians from around the world. This past December she performed in Cajon Valley's Got Talent, along with The Voice finalist Michael Sanchez.
