The night started off with Devon Cahill who was a great surprise. She is a local singer here in St. Louis I hadn't heard of until recently. She has a strong, beautiful voice. I really enjoyed her songs. One of them included a bit of whistling in it that was amazing to hear!
For Tristen, by my recollection, it’s been eight years, two children and two released albums since her last visit to St. Louis. It was worth the wait!
There are many people who sing well and create great music, perhaps only a rare few, that bring much more with them, Depth. They embrace their music, embrace You with their music, make you a part of it. That is Tristen to a "T." Singer, Songwriter, Musician, Poet, Wife, Mom and all-around Decent Human Being. She and her musical partner and husband Buddy Hughen met in Nashville and have been creating a variety of beautiful music together ever since. She really knows how to hook you with catchy phrasing, haunting imagery formed of words, then make you miss a breath with deep feelings and emotions. Then makes you smile/laugh with the Wit and Charm of one of her silly little ditties. I’m still a bit in Awe of her and of Buddy at what they’ve accomplished in their music career together without sacrificing who they are. Genuine.
They really put themselves into their music through their instruments and voices. Especially when they move closer together to play and sing next to one another. It’s Beautiful, and adds something to the music that you hear and feel.
After a couple of songs, she had us move up against the stage to see us better. She wants to feel like part of the audience, and for us to feel like we’re on stage with her.
Tristen talks with her audience, not at them. She tells funny anecdotes as to how some of the songs came about showing the depths of the thoughts and feelings that created them.
And the band they've assembled behind that really fills out the sound perfectly.
Catch her if you can, otherwise, you’re missing out!

They are Always great to hear in concert! Fantastic modern-retro sound with Tristen’s awesome voice. And some of her descriptions from her songs’ origins will make you laugh. Great personality and human being.
