A propos de The Electric Dead

Deep from the bowels of the Niagara Region comes a sound you would think was created by Satan himself - a devilish mix of horror punk, metal, and the delta blues that will have you joining the masses to follow the Dark Lord.

Referred to recently as “an evil ZZ Top”, The Electric Dead is a culmination of over twenty years of collaboration in various projects between Sam Crowley (lead vocals and guitar), Kisho Trioxin (bass and back-up vocals), and Dickie “The Ace” Togus (drums), and are heavily influenced by bands like the Misfits, Danzig, Alice Cooper and Black Sabbath. The original concept for the band was an “evil blues band” inspired by the music and mythos of blues guitarist Robert Johnson, so much so that Johnson’s ‘Me and the Devil Blues’ was the motivator for Sam to write ‘Me and the Devil’. Once the three members got together, however, their sound morphed into something more. Maintaining the heavy blues feel, they’ve added punk and metal overtones that have allowed them to move fluidly within the live music scene, and have been billed alongside iconic bands like Green Jelly, SNFU and Dead Boys.

Ghoulish in appearance, they are often accompanied on stage by their three-headed familiar Smokey - the animatronic hound of hell. Between the fire-breathing beast and the creepy sounds of the introduction, it is clear that this is an unholy union of blues and horror; rock-hard organs round out the instrumentation of each song. Lyrically, the songs are reminiscent of some of those old delta blues themes – the devil, his work, and the devil women who end up six feet under.

While the music itself is an homage to the artists that have influenced them, the sound of the Electric Dead is definitely unique by today’s standards. Dark, spooky and fun as hell, they put on a killer show that is not to be missed - even the devil himself has been known to make an appearance from time to time.
