A propos de Jules Taylor

"His vocals are as weathered as an old highway sign and as inviting as your favorite mom and pop diner... Overall, the collection is the musical equivalent of the Great American Novel: a work that captures what it means to be human – the shortcomings and the triumphs, the heartaches and the joys." - Paula Cummings, NYSMusic.com
"A kind of high-drama ambient American rock with equal parts grit and ether. Its affinities are many: Wilco, Calexico, Ryan Adams, Drive-by Truckers, Neil Young…do I need to continue? What the references don’t necessarily suggest is how nicely crafted and layered these relatively crunchy, hard-rocking tracks are: dark, shimmering, electric desert snarl; good stuff, well-played and even-better-conceived. It is not hard to imagine any of these songs showing up in a stylized modern Western." - John Burdick, Hudson Valley One
"Mountain Time isn’t something you hear too often nowadays, and I do mean that as a compliment. This is a record I could see my Dad playing through the stereo while working together in my childhood garage. It’s a record to drive through the flat-plained area of the country with. It’s white-collar in blue-collar clothing." - TJ Foster, DigitalWheatPaste.com
Jules Taylor is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Texas. He is currently living in the Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York. His latest album, Mountain Time, was released in May of 2018.
His early years were spent in South Texas, growing up in a small town called Lyford. Spending his early adulthood so close to the Mexican border left an indelible mark on his musical compositions. Traditional Mexican folk music, Classic Country, and Texas Blues influences have shaped his songwriting, groove, and musical tonality.
After relocating to Nashville in 2005, Jules worked on Music Row as an engineer, and later operated a studio out of his home, where he produced up and coming singer-songwriters and independent rock acts. After relocating to the Hudson Valley, Jules’ focus shifted to his own musical compositions.
His Rock ‘n’ Roll band EL YEAH! released an EP in November of 2014 entitled “Welcome to August”. EL YEAH! features a grunge rock sound, mixed with a Southern rock influence. Jules has now returned to his roots, having written several new songs that display his affection for Folk and Americana music. There is a heavy Appalachian influence, laced with ether and maybe some peyote.
He is known for ‘live looping’ during his solo performances. Using only an acoustic guitar, and a variety of floor pedals, he creates large sonic landscapes that are far beyond your typical singer-songwriters. In 2017, Jules was a featured performer at the Y2K17 Providence International Live Looping Festival.
