iO Sounds hails from the depths of North London and apart from being an insular part of the 2020 Vision family, is the thinking mans choice when it comes to layered 4/4 precision. iO is predominantly about experimentation and developing new ways to create unique sounds and textures, its this approach that has produced praise from the likes of Creators Project, Thump and Inverted Audio. As an established denizen of the UK underground, iO Sounds explores the darker, more minimal side of house, garage and techno, often bending and contorting known structure. By day; a professional sound engineer and producer, By night; an expert at crafting subtly impressionistic dance floor music with a sonic palette that is both futuristic and familiar in composition. Production-wise iO’s practice is concerned with field recordings, distortion and obscure degraded sampling, creating hooks that engage and inspire. This is conducted through an array of analogue hardware worthy of any early Eimert or Stockhausen laboratory. Inspiration comes from other worldly experimentation and balancing modular and new technologies. For those looking for an initial reference point think experimental balanced compositions akin to Simian Mobile Disco, with the raw-edged drum programming of a Leon Vynehall or Steve Bug offering. Production is conducted with a meticulous approach, he appears to have an innate ability to produce groove laden gems with just the right dose of skittish ticks and pin-sharp detail. Tracks are therefore a balanced and rewarding journey whereby lunar inspired landscapes and celestial journeys are conveyed audibly.
