His father, Donny Bernard, and uncle, Johnny Bernard, toured throughout Oklahoma, Texas, and Nashville in the 1970s, backing legendary artists including Tanya Tucker, Wanda Jackson, and Sleepy LaBeef. His uncle co-wrote “Muddy Mississippi,” recorded by Reba McEntire, while his great-great-grandfather was George “Bitter Creek” Newcomb of the Dalton Gang, whose story inspired the Eagles’ song “Bitter Creek.” Music, storytelling, and a touch of rebellion have long been part of the family tradition.

Growing up in Wasilla, Alaska, Houston began performing at age 12 in talent shows, shopping malls, and community events.
