A propos de Codices

Codices are a 4-piece math/post/experimental rock band from London.

Founded in early 2017, old friends, guitarists Asher Kenton and Sam Festenstein added new recruits Michal Maryniak on bass and Alex Mann on drums.

Gigs in their debut year included playing alongside the likes of Totorro, Hikes, Alpha Male Tea Party, Lost in the Riots, The Fierce and the Dead, Kusanagi, Blanket, Chiyoda Ku, Tacoma Narrows Bridge Disaster and Bearded Youth Quest.

In May 2017, they released their debut EP Illuminations, recorded and mixed by Sam Jones (False Advertising, Elevant) at the Abbey Road Institute and mastered by Tom Peters (Alpha Male Tea Party, Vasa). The EP quickly gained widespread acclaim from the alternative music press.

The band combines a foundation of their key influences with a drive to innovate and create something unusual. The resulting sound has drawn favourable comparisons with the likes of And So I Watch You From Afar, Brontide and Russian Circles.

The name 'Codices' is the plural of Codex, the Latin name used to describe an historic tradition of book-writing. The Codex quickly replaced the clunky and outdated scrolls with a format similar to the modern paperback. The name neatly sums up the band’s vision to draw from what has gone before to create something new and meaningful.

In November 2017, the band embarked on an 8-date tour of the UK with up-and-coming post-rockers Only Echoes Remain.
