A propos de Gregory Porter

Gregory Porter
With his customary class, elegance, and sophistication, GRAMMY-winning singer-songwriter Gregory Porter today announces his first-ever Christmas album, to be released on November 3 via Blue Note/Decca Records. Entitled Christmas Wish it is a loving tribute to his favorite time of year – and to great songwriters, singers, and interpreters including Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Marvin Gaye, Dinah Washington, and Nat King Cole. In addition to this list of world class names, Porter himself has added to the Christmas songbook with three original tracks, soon to be favorites for the festive season, including the first single “Everything’s Not Lost” which is out now.
Backed by his long-time band and produced by repeat collaborator Troy Miller, the album features inspired interpretations of carols, standards, and soulful sixties deep-cuts including “Silent Night,” “Little Drummer Boy,” Marvin Gaye’s “Purple Snowflakes,” Stevie Wonder’s “Someday At Christmas,” and Frank Loesser’s “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?,” which features a special guest appearance by GRAMMY-winning vocalist Samara Joy.
The theme of sharing and caring at Christmas, and the sense of renewal and revival that comes when the year draws to a close, is all here in Porter’s most personal contribution – his trio of new, self-penned songs, “Christmas Wish,” “Heart For Christmas,” and “Everything’s Not Lost,” an elegant piano ballad that is Porter’s persuasive plea to remember those less fortunate than ourselves. “I'm always thinking of balance” he explains. “That has been instilled in me and it keeps coming up in a lot of my music. At your highest, at your greatest, at your most pleasant time, don't forget about other people who are suffering.”
Christmas Wish features Porter’s longtime pianist Chip Crawford on piano, Emmanuel Harrold on drums and percussion, Gregoire Maret on harmonica, Jahmal Nichols on bass, Ondre Pivec on Hammond organ, Tivon Pennicott on flute, soprano saxophone, and tenor saxphone, and backing vocals by Stephanie Fisher-Alvarenga, Chris Ashley Anthony, and Sheherazade Holman with orchestral contributions from the Kingdom Orchestra. The album was recorded between Sear Sound Studio in New York City and London’s Crossways Studio and Abbey Road Studios.

We've wanted to see Gregory Porter for a few years and were so thrilled with his live performance. His vocal range and his band were both fabulous. He has an easy way about him on stage, which was lovely. My only disappointment was that he didn't sing Hey Laura, which is my all-time favorite song of his. Maybe next time!

I just got home from his show here in Toronto and as they say, "absence makes the heart grow fonder,' and there was no denying the love that was shared between him and his Canadian fans (even to the point of a playful apology LOL). From the opening notes of Holding On to his encore closer It's Probably Me, Gregory kept his audience enwrapped with his charm and vocal talent with stand outs like Water Under Bridges having Chip Crawford accompanying him on piano, to a near heart stopping and soulful rendition of My Funny Valentine, as well as fan favorites Liquid Spirit and Hey Laura. Gregory Porter had Massey Hall in a loving musical embrace...❤️
A wonderful night was had by all! ☺️

An Astonishing Night with Gregory Porter at Teatro Real, Madrid
Last night, Gregory Porter delivered a truly unforgettable performance at the majestic Teatro Real in Madrid. From the very first note, his presence was magnetic—but as the concert progressed, he soared to even greater heights, culminating in a finale that left the audience in awe.
Each song was a masterclass in soul and jazz, brought to life not only by Porter's rich, velvety voice but also by the exceptional musicians who accompanied him. What stood out was the seamless synergy between Porter and his band. While each musician had the talent to shine as a solo jazz performer, they chose instead to blend harmoniously, creating a sound that was both cohesive and electrifying. Porter, ever the generous bandleader, gave each artist space to express their unique voice, allowing their individual brilliance to illuminate the stage.
The audience was captivated throughout—smiling, swaying, and fully immersed in the music. There was a palpable sense of joy and connection in the room, a shared experience that transcended words.
The setting of Teatro Real, with its elegant architecture and impeccable acoustics, provided the perfect backdrop. The lighting design added a warm, intimate glow that enhanced the emotional depth of the performance. For nearly two hours, time seemed to stand still as everyone was swept away by the magic of the evening.
A night to remember, and a testament to the power of live music at its finest.
