About Brineaboy

In a city where music is expected, artists are consistently under pressure to create. Some music becomes a staple of live shows, while other songs forge a permanent place on the next album. Regardless, it’s easy for musicians to fall into the mold and
process, and forget about the art. But some tracks refuse to fit that mold.. they’re created for a different purpose, one that’s clear from the start. And some of the best art
remains pure, without catering to anyone at all. An emerging music collaboration called
Brineaboy (Brine-uh-boy) is just that, and listeners of a handful of genres would agree - it goes far beyond scratching the surface of a new genre. The driving force behind Brineaboy isn’t to deliver, it’s to create for the love of music, and for the desperate need to express.
Listen to the first two tracks from Brineaboy, and your mind will subconsciously fall into the beat of a well-curated rap track. But your ears may perk with surprise when Pennsylvania transplant Amy Wright’s haunting, swoon-worthy vocals overlap the beat. The sonic, beat-focused collaboration between Amy and HA Hill started as an outlet to plug in all the musical ideas drifting between the two heads. Amy’s chilling vocals layered on top of crisp rhythms and dark synth textures served as a simple cry to be once again intimate with music. The duo realized they were onto something, and Brineaboy took on its own life, developing into a full-fledged project.
Amy Wright, one-half of the collaboration, already fronts East Nashville-based rock band Yumi & the System. Amy has carved out her place in the Nashville alt music scene over the past few years, but like many, was feeling burnt-out and distant from her passions. What started as an escape towards relief helped her define the driving force behind her creativity. “We weren't running our ideas by a group of people. We were self-producing - we took a more purist approach.” said Amy. “I left most of the initial vocal melodies and lyrical reactions stay put, purging without a care. Some of the reactions felt messier than others, I didn't perfect any notes or comb through the efforts of countless takes to make it perfect. The effects on the vocals are part of the feeling as well. I'm expecting critiques, good and bad. But, my only regret would be to not continue
expressing some of these songs by our own instinct.”
Brineaboy is clearly an expression of differences - one that serves as a reminder for both artists, who wanted to bring their music styles together without leaving listeners
with any doubt that indie, synth, dance, and electronic music can work together. HA Hill’s music background isn’t one too many Nashville musicians can resonate with either. He jumpstarted his 20+ year music career by writing a rap, after being a dancer for a local rapper in Alabama. Rap and beat-driven music drove Hill to create his first beat just 4 years later, and the rest was history for him.. this was something that had to
continue. Curious what would transpire for the track in mind, the two would eventually team up and throw the song back and forth. As the duo contributed more and more to two individual tracks, it became clear this wasn’t a Yumi record.
As the collaboration emerges and the hum of the project grows louder and louder on a local level, it’s clear there’s something invaluable about remaining purist and stripping things down to reveal the raw emotion behind the work.
The duo are staying focused on what matters - providing their experience with inspiration, relief, and escape, and bringing together genres, so more listeners can cross those waves with them as they go.
