Pittsburgh indie rockers Buffalo Buffalo Buffalo started off trying to be folk-punk and ended up being everything else as well. Formed out of individual delusions of grandeur and circumstances, the herd came to be in the winter of 2009-2010 and grew from there like a runaway Katamari. Members now include Josh Alday: the talent, who hits things with the fervor of an enraged ape and the precision of a less enraged ape, and presses buttons both analog and digital with the precision and bravado of a mustachioed Italian man who might play a tarantella for you on a street-lit street corner, Chelsea Fury: whose haunting vocals and nasty guitar licks float across cacophonous sound-scapes like a Phoenix rising up from the ashes of rock and roll gods past to sear your very existence, Bryan Hat: who wears his name on his head and his heart on his sleeve, locking in with Alday to kick out some sweet grooves and laying down rambling lyrics, (The Letter) Q: who sold a minority stake in his soul to the devil so that he could play guitar pretty damn good, and who will belt out heartfelt lyrics that will punch you in the chest without the slightest bit of remorse, and finally, frenetic multi-instrumentalist Vincent Sparacino, who fills in all the nooks and crannies like butter, rocking some tasty piano riffs and killer drum beats to knock you on your ass. All of these factors come together to build musical forums as storied as those of Rome, and just as glorious as she stood in her heyday while as rough and raw as her ruins stand today.
