Bronson Rock Biography

Bronson began at a house party in September 2013, where the four members played together for the first time. Although the sound was loose and everything was improvised, when the weekend-long party ended, the group had too much fun jamming to not pursue music together.

At the time, Mike Del Principe (drums) and Matt Robinson (bass) were playing in another band, which had been around for the better half of a decade, and their relationship as a rhythm section had already been developing for quite a while. The guitar players, Kyle Weck and Mike Mara had been friends who jammed on occasion, each played music in college but never together. Knowing such a great rhythm section who love to jam, and Kyle being one of Mike’s favorite people to play with, the opportunity for to play together was only a matter of time.

The name, Bronson Rock was chosen quickly, and was originally intended to be replaced, but the band stuck with it after becoming recognized by the name. The term “Bronson rock” comes from a late-60’s TV show called Then Came Bronson, which was about a motorcycle riding vagabond who used a rock to pound dents out of his bike’s fender and gas tank. In other words, a Bronson rock is really any makeshift tool; it lacks some sophistication but gets the job done.

Since forming the band, Bronson Rock has written original music, played quite a few local venues from suburban dives to the House of Blues in Chicago, put on a Jeff Beck tribute show, recorded a hand full of tunes at The Jam Lab recording studio, and have been developing a style of music to call their own.
