A Mile to Nowhere Biography

Hailing from the coalfields of West Virginia, A Mile to Nowhere is a different breed of band. A mix of honest country, unyielding rock and roll and pop sensibility, the band is hard to define. That may be the way they would prefer it. Call it country, rock, or whatever you may. It seems to make no difference to them; as long as you're listening. Singer/songwriter Roger Lee Charles and drummer Teddy Murphy had played in bands together for upward of six years when they decided to form what became A Mile to Nowhere. The initial idea was simple enough: play music for the sake of playing music. After writing began, however, they quickly realized the idea should be taken seriously. After a couple of early lineup changes, guitarist T.J Murphy and bassist Matt Sincell entered to complete the lineup. The groups first e.p, titled "Beer Bottles and Blood Stains", tells the story fairly well. Recorded on a shoe string budget. Self engineered and produced. Mixed by Nashville's Bill Decker (Montgomery Gentry, JB and the Moonshine Band, Corey Smith). It's a record full of tales of wishful escape, self deprecating love stories, and broken hearts. Riding the fence, musically, between genres while never seeming to have an identity crisis. As a matter of fact, they seem to have a firm grasp on who they are. Following the release, of "Beer Bottles," the band went into Blackbird Studios in Nashville to begin work on a second album. They were working with Grammy winning producer/engineer David Hall (Kenny Chesney, Lonestar, Gavin Degraw) They started by re-recording two of the fan favorites, "Mama or Jesus" and "This Damn Town." A Mile to Nowhere very well could be a force to be reckoned with very soon. Still Runnin' available on iTunesand at any A Mile to Nowhere show.
