The Constant Change Biography

The origins of The Constant Change, like many great bands that have come before, can be traced back to a young boy purchasing his very first guitar. Oliver Finch, born and raised in sunny Southern California, claims picking up guitar was the best decision of his life. Luckily, he found a great guitar mentor, Fast Freddy, and began learning songs by Nofx, Green Day, and other punk and pop punk bands. However, Oliver's ears quickly developed a desire for deeper musical complexity. Therefore, he shifted his musical focus and began attempting to emulate the likes of Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. Meanwhile, in early 2008, Oliver and his long time friend Nick Hanulik decided to join forces and co-found what would be the first variant of The Constant Change, known then by the name Cookies for Chaos. By this time, Oliver had started to develop his jazz sensibilities along with his feel for rhythm guitar. He became heavily involved with styles such as ska, reggae, and funk. Because his interests primarily lied in theatre arts, Nick Hanulik left the band in late 2010 to purse a theatre degree at Cornish College of the Arts. This would temporarily put an end to his collaborative effort with Oliver. However, the following year, Nick would come to the realization his truest passion lied in music. In the summer of 2011, Nick returned to Los Angeles to reform the band with Oliver under the new name The Constant Change. Having realized his dreams, Nick began cultivating his skills as a bassist, studying the bass lines of legendary players such as James Jamerson, John Paul Jones, and Flea. Simultaneously, Oliver and Nick began composing tunes and jamming a couple of nights a week in Oliver's garage. The two of them continued jamming with various drummers and musicians throughout 2011 and 2012, until finally securing the band's current drummer, Matt Gay, in late 2012. Matt Guy was born and raised in Ojai, CA. An avid drummer since the age of 7, Matt joined Champagne Sunday when he was just 18 years old. With them, Matt recorded one full album and multiple demos. Over the course of 4 years, he undertook 2 tours and played over 350 live shows. After moving to Los Angeles and his departure from the group, Matt was introduced to Nick and Oliver of The Constant Change in September of 2012. Since then, the three of them have consistently played shows in Los Angeles and the surrounding area. The Constant Change continues to this day as Oliver, Nick, and Matt strive for musical excellence. Don't fight the future...the only constant is change. Http://soundcloud.com/the-constant-change
