La Maison Française of NYU is proud to welcome Jacques Schwarz-Bart (2023 La Maison Française of NYU gala honoree, voted 2025 Best Saxophone Player in France) for a concert celebrating the release of his new album, Resistance. He will perform with Or Bareket (bass) and Samuel Bolduc (drums). Jacques Schwarz-Bart’s new trio album, Resistance, is a musical response to the times we live in, transforming anxiety into serenity through the power of music and collective expression. Based in Boston, the acclaimed saxophonist draws on a deeply personal lineage of resistance: his father, André Schwarz-Bart, was the youngest member of the French Resistance, while his mother, Simone, co-authored La Mulâtresse Solitude, a novel centered on a historic figure of resistance to slavery in Guadeloupe. This legacy of resistance to fascism and colonial oppression informs Jacques Schwarz-Bart’s work and his desire to pass this spirit on to the next generation. For Resistance, he embraces formal freedom with a trio of tenor saxophone, double bass, and drums, deliberately omitting piano and guitar. Free from predetermined harmonic structures, the three musicians create an open space for improvisation, exploration, and radical musical expression.
