Sean Tobin

Sean Tobin is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter whose music lives somewhere between the ocean and the road– equal parts storytelling, heartland rock, and lived-in autobiography.

Raised on the Jersey Shore, Tobin writes songs inhabited by blue-collar anti-heroes, old friends, and past versions of himself. His time as a Galway busker led to hundreds of shows around the USA, where he has proved himself as a captivating performer. He has since performed at festivals such as SXSW, Americanafest, North2Shore, and Frank Turner’s Lost Evenings, and has opened for the likes of Jason Isbell, Rhett Miller, Chase Rice, and many more.

Tobin has steadily built an audience far beyond the rooms where he first honed his craft. His songs have reached hundreds of thousands of listeners, while tracks including “Grandpa Was a Liberal,” “Sourdough & Avocado,” and “‘09 Baseline Wage” have connected through the kind of narrative songwriting that has increasingly become his signature: funny without becoming novelty, sentimental without becoming cliché, and deeply personal without losing sight of the people on the other side of the song.

After years balancing his own career with life on the road, Tobin has developed an unusually proletarian relationship with being an independent artist. He has toured extensively, worked behind the scenes on major touring productions, funded and released records himself, and built his audience entirely outside the traditional label system. That proximity to both sides of the music business has only sharpened the worldview at the center of his songs: art is romantic; making a life from it usually isn't. His 2025 album Seasick marked a significant expansion of that world, pairing Tobin’s narrative instincts with a fuller roots-rock palette. He followed the release with various singles and EPs, including the stripped-back acoustic release: Billy & Other Tales.

That trajectory leads to Banshee River, Tobin’s most intimate work yet. Recorded alone in his living room on a Tascam 244 cassette machine, the ten-song album strips away nearly everything separating the listener from the writing. The songs were conceived alongside Tobin’s unreleased novel of the same name and trace grief, love, and the alchemy of hardship.
