Set the scene: it’s 2AM. You’re in the car spiraling over a text you never got, and your phone battery is at 1%. The only thing louder than your sobs is the music you’re blasting to drown them out. That’s where Hyber lives - where emotional collapse and cathartic expression intertwine. Based between Salem and Boston, Massachusetts, the four-piece band makes joyously pissed-off emo for those of us who feel too much and text back too fast.

Led by vocalist/guitarist Kris Musto (she/her) with guitarist Nick Arathuzik (he/him), bassist Gabriel Santos (he/him), and drummer Jeanette Abbene (she/her), Hyber channels the raw nerve of Movements, the sugar-high hooks of The Beths, the self-aware angst of The Wonder Years, and the “it’s not a phase” stamina of early Fall Out Boy.

Their new song, “Waiting For Your Call”, is an adrenaline-filled bop about confronting the skeletons in your closet, crafted for those experiencing situations that have left them sleep deprived and over-caffeinated. Distorted guitars, a whiplash chorus, and a Space Invaders-style pick slide at 2:15 that accidentally made it into the final mix make up the track’s soul; there’s even a chiptune remix b-side, Hyber’s very own soundtrack for fighting your very own personal boss.

Whether you’re screaming these lyrics in your bedroom or the car, or you’re hearing that chiptune breakdown hit at just the right moment, Hyber is here to remind you that closure is overrated, but a great song can be just as healing.
