ANSON

Los Angeles-based Alternative Rock band, ANSON is a 3-piece act set to bridge early 2000’s emo rock with today’s mainstream stratosphere. The group, consisting of Anson Li (Vocals) and Zack Mueller (Lead Guitarist) offer an array of introspective songs about life and discovering who you are as a person. Heavily influenced by groups like Taking Back Sunday, Mayday Parade, Jimmy Eat World and Paramore, ANSON offers a bold blend of catchy choruses and deep lyrical content to bring a refreshing sound to an aged genre with hopes to rekindle the love of emo rock to many fans who have strayed away.

Growing up, Anson Li was surrounded by music. He quickly learned to play the tenor saxophone and guitar in middle school and devoted his time and effort to mastering the art of singing and songwriting. While attending Fiorello H. Laguardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, he was classically trained and was apart of their notable songwriting class called New Music Singers. Throughout his time in school, he knew his passion for music would eventually lead him to performing as well. In 2012, he ventured on as a solo act releasing his debut EP Go My Way, with the help of Chris Guglielmo of Bayside on drums. This EP was well-received by fans, which led him to touring the US and Canada, playing over 125 shows in the year and generating an overwhelming fan base one show at a time. He continued on to share the stage with many notable acts including X Ambassadors, Suzanne Vega, Jesse Ruben, and Juliet Simms (from The Voice), to name a few before entering the studio again. Li recorded Who You Want To Be EP with famed-producer, Dave Cook (O.A.R., Dan + Shay, Shawn Mendes). For years, Li toured the country and even was a background performer for Band of Merrymakers, a Christmas supergroup of artists including Mark McGrath (Sugar Ray), Alex & Sierra, Neon Trees, Natasha Bedingfield, and 3OH!3. After some time, Li decided it was time to put a pause on his musical career to continue his education.

After nearly four years, Anson Li was confronted on why he stopped performing and making music. That conversation led to many internal decisions of “why.” Continuing to feel the frustration and lack of inspiration, the minute Li started writing, singing, and recording it was an exhilarating re-discovery that his deeply profound passion for music was something that would never go away. To Be or Nothing At All, Li’s brand new EP, reflects on the journey to find his self identity and speaks to the struggles of putting everything on the line to live for your art. In 2017, Li collaborated with George Tello and Zack Mueller to complete the exact live sound he was looking for. No longer wanting to front as a solo act, instead wanting ANSON to be the brand the band stands for and something larger than himself. The three found commonality in self discovery, strength, and empowerment to take a risk in life, and brought a unique synergy to the new EP. Li continues, “To Be or Nothing At All is a testament to the fact, you can’t live your life stuck at the crossroads. It’s the risking leaps in life that make the journey to achieving your dreams worth it.”

To Be or Nothing At All, produced by Andrew D’Angelo (Set It Off, Volumes, Cold Rain), mixed by Dan Korneff (Paramore, Pierce The Veil, Our Last Night, My Chemical Romance), and mastered by Ted Jensen (Muse, Green Day, Billy Joel, The Police) is due out September 29, 2017.
