Naomi Scott Biography
Singer, songwriter and artist Naomi Scott is the product of patience, self-discovery and years of intentional craft.
Widely known for her work in film (Aladdin, Smile 2), music and songwriting have always been central to her identity. Raised singing from a young age at her parents’ East London church and first discovered at 14, Naomi’s journey into music began early, with formative sessions in partnership with pop powerhouse Xenomania and two EPs released while still in her teens. As one passion gave way to another and her primary focus turned towards a successful career in film - which also saw her write songs, alongside producer Idarose, for ‘Smile 2: The Skye Riley EP’ - Naomi has continued to explore her own artistic voice alongside a quiet determination to release new music.
Over the years, Scott has experimented with collaborators in both the UK and US, but it was only when she brought the process back to herself, writing songs at the piano, that her own sound began to crystallize. Deeply influenced by gospel, ’80s pop, and the alt-pop heroes of her youth, the result is an artistically rich, world-building body of work that is smart, considered and intoxicating. Created alongside Norwegian producer Lido (Jordan Ward, Ariana Grande, Amine), plus collaborators Goldwash and Daphne Gale, Scott’s new songs ring with the tantalising spectres of her inspirations but transports them somewhere thrillingly fresh. Upcoming singles - including first track ‘Rhythm’ – all pull from a wide sonic palette filled with haunting hooks and thematic depth, inspired by the vocal arrangements of 90's Janet Jackson, the vulnerable dance music of Robyn and the sincerity of Phil Collins, the project explores missed paths, self-perception, and the duality of desire and regret.
Having spent the best part of a decade cementing her vision, throwing things away and starting again until she got it right, everything about Scott’s music is confident, clear and purposeful. "I’m so excited to be sharing music that I’ve been crafting for such a long time and having full control of the end product is such a blessing,” she says. “With music there is such proximity to you, it's so personal, that’s the beauty of the exchange.”
With the bass-led pulse of lead single ‘Rhythm’ introducing this next era, ahead of more new music to come, this is an artist in her own right, delivering her most personal and confident work to date
