Richard Walton Group Biography
The Richard Walton Group is celebrating 32 years of award-winning sophisticated original multi-genre instrumental music. In 2023, they released their highly anticipated "5 By Seven" CD. In 2016, the band was nominated 'Best Jazz Artist' by the Maryland Music Awards. They also were nominated in 2016 for a WAMMIE, "Under The Current" Best Jazz Recording. In 2015, they released their anticipated new studio CD "Under The Current". They were one of the first Mid-Atlantic contemporary jazz artists to receive national airplay in the early 1990's. The group has produced & released 6 professional CD's; often reviewed and compared to an instrumental Steely Dan or to the likes of Fourplay, Pat Metheny Group, Sea Level, Spyro Gyra, etc. Their music is featured on Pandora Radio; often being played alongside Sergio Mendes, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Acoustic Alchemy, etc. They have performed many high profile jobs in the Mid-Atlantic region; including a few headlining shows at Blues Alley Supper & Jazz Club in Washington DC. Individually & collectively, they have received countless songwriting awards. Their last CD "Junction", features a popular instrumental download version of Stevie Wonder's "Golden Lady".
