Andromeda Turre Biography
Andromeda Turre is a consummate performer and composer who has honed her craft over a lifetime immersed in music. Born into a family of Jazz musicians, Andromeda was fortunate to glean from the greats, including Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Wynton Marsalis as well as her parents Steve Turre and Akua Dixon.
Formally trained at The Boston Conservatory, where she studied theater, and at Berklee College of Music, where she focused on vocal performance, her talents have taken her around the world, from touring with Ray Charles, to reigning as the "Queen of the Blues," at Tokyo Disney and headlining festivals with her own music in 17 countries worldwide.
In addition to her vocal talents, Andromeda is an accomplished composer whose original works have been featured in film, television, video games and theater.
Trained at Cornell University in Diversity and Inclusion, her Growing Up Jazz program teaches Black history through the lens of Jazz. For this initiative, she was awarded the 2022 Women of Distinction Award from NY state senate and county legislators as well as the Arts Award for Advancing Equity from ArtsWestchester in 2024. Andromeda hosts her own show on the SiriusXM Real Jazz channel every Saturday and Sunday from 11am-5pm EST.
Her upcoming album, From the Earth, is a jazz suite about environmental justice releasing July 26, 2024 and is made possible by support from Jazz Road, Doris Duke Foundation, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the New York State Council on the Arts and ArtsWestchester.
