chrysalis Biography
Indigo Ansin, known professionally as "chrysalis," is a Boston-based songwriter, singer, and guitarist currently attending Berklee College of Music.
Heavily influenced by artists they grew up listening to such as Joni Mitchell and Alanis Morissette as well as contemporaries like Field Medic and Indigo de Souza, chrysalis fuses together a unique blend of traditional American folk and grunge indie rock. They actively work to integrate their love for music with their passion for the liberation of oppressed peoples by radically taking up space in the folk genre, which has been one predominantly fronted by white male artists. They also take from their indie rock roots of femme-fronted bands that do not shy away from difficult topics in their lyricism.
Despite only recently starting to release their music, chrysalis has had major successes in their career so far. Whether it be organizing mutual aid benefit shows in the Boston DIY music scene, working with other young indie folk musicians working to diversify a genre that has not previously made space for marginalized artists, or having played Boston Calling after getting scouted while busking in the streets of Boston, they hold their love for community at the forefront of everything they do.
