Through The Roots

Through The Roots (TTR) is a nationally touring pop-reggae band based in San Diego and Hawaii. Formed in 2008 in the Rancho Bernardo home of lead singer Evan Hawkins, the band, initially consisting of Hawkins and keyboardist Brady O'Rear, honed their sound through countless hours of practice and local performances.

By 2010, TTR transitioned from house parties to extensive touring, a journey that has continued for over 13 years. They have since played sold-out shows at renowned venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheater, Greek Theater, 9:30 Club, First Avenue, and The Roxy, and have expanded their performances to Hawaii, Mexico, Costa Rica, Canada, and Guam.

In September 2021, Calvin Canha (Drummer/Producer) joined the band. By December of the same year, TTR recorded their self-titled album, "TTR," in Nashville, which was released in August 2022. This album showcases a blend of pop, rap, reggae, and R&B influences.

May 2023 saw the release of TTR's single “Refund,” featuring the internationally acclaimed dancehall/reggae artist Busy Signal. Produced by Calvin Canha during a 2022 writing camp in Hawaii, “Refund” offers a modern take on the 1980s dancehall reggae sound with catchy lyrics.

Most recently, in June 2025, Through The Roots released their new single "Just Cruise." This track offers a refreshing take on Island reggae, combining contemporary production with infectious lyrics and pop sensibilities. Created during a 2024 writing session in Hawaii and produced by Canha and O’Rear, the lyrics for "Just Cruise" were quickly penned by Evan Hawkins.
