Dissension

Montreal quintet Dissension was originally formed by guitarist Matteo Conti and Anthony Pulcini in the middle of 2007 under the name of Set to Kill. Soon after, Nathan Afilalo and Oli Aveline were added to handle guitar and bass duties. Within the year the current line-up was complete when Keyboardist Andrew Proppe joined the band. The band recorded their first studio album with Producer Kevin Jardine (Uplift Productions, Slaves on Dope, The Monarchy). This is when Nathan officially became the front man of the band, and that the name Set To Kill changed to Dissension. In 2013, as bassist Oli Aveline departed the band, Giancarlo Cinnini took his place. The album, Of Time and Chronic Disease was launched on September 10th 2013, and Dissension has been gigging to promote the album, with their second record mostly written and well underway. Since its formation, the band has appeared in numerous interviews, and on Global and VRAK TV. They have opened for numerous well known metal acts, with an appearance on Montreal’s Heavy MTL Festival in 2011, and played at Canadian Music Week alongside Cryptopsy the same year. Their style of metal has been something difficult to describe in the past few years, though Dissension’s success and the attention they garnered at last year’s Wacken Metal Battle had them titled blackened thrash metal by the end of it.
