About this concert
LONDON PROG GIGS are thrilled to present a stunning double-header of post rock/prog/space/surf/psych at the famous Hope & Anchor in Islington. JAPANESE TELEVISION - Informed by UFO encounters, ritualism, robots, Northern Soul, and solar flares, space-surf-psych-rock quartet Japanese Television continue the quest to spread their fuzzy gospel. The band?s second album ?Automata Exotica? - set for release on 22nd March 2024 by Tip Top Recordings - sees a combination of cyclical, mechanical rhythms, heavy bass, reverb drenched organ and plenty of fuzz. ?Automata Exotica? is louder, tighter, bolder and rawer than anything they have done before. The new record follows Japanese Television?s 2022 debut LP ?Space Fruit Vineyard?, a record which caught the support of BBC 6 Music (where they?ve had over 100 spot plays and recorded two sessions for Marc Riley), Radio X (where they also performed a live session) NME, So Young, Clash, Louder Than War, DIY, Arts Desk, Gigwise, and more. The band have spent the past year touring the UK with Swedish psychedelic legends GOAT & British cult surf grunge outfit The Wytches to huge audiences, and their first European tour along with festival appearances around the globe. As the band grows, they get stranger, louder & more powerful. ?On a different orbit from everything else?? - Steve Lamacq, BBC 6 Music ?Absolutely brilliant? - Marc Riley, BBC 6 Music ?Lives up to its cosmic-beachy billing? - NME ?An off-piste dream...a wild phenomenon? - Clash ?Sought after psych-seekers? - So Young ?Trippy, witty, surf laden? - God Is In The TV ?GOAT Loves You? - GOAT ?Groovy and menacing, always on the attack? - DIY Mag COMA ROSSI - Driven by a constant yearning to stay true to its heart and words that look inward, Coma Rossi strives to achieve that contemplative silence and a familiar melancholy wrapped under the atmospheric, saturated guitars, reeking textures from imperfect synthesizers and explosive drum sounds, like when gearing up for a storm out at the sea. Their second album 'Void' (releasing 18th July 2024) meanders through the ebb and flow of egress and ingress. It takes one through the debilitating pain of detaching the self to caress the thick needles of loss. It saddles one with the discomforting grief that hits in waves. It catapults one into a gorge of charred distressing memories. ?Void' brings in a new sonic atmosphere in the Coma Rossi chapter and impales the listener on the pyre of ruffled emotions. Their debut eponymous album was released at the end of 2018 to substantial acclaim, and they are now visiting the UK for the first time. ?The most honest way to describe the album is one of the best prog rock albums ever produced? I?m not just saying the best of this year, I?m saying the best ever.? - Heavy Mag (Australia) ?Coma Rossi debut with tremendous melodic sensibility.? - The Prog Mind (UK) ?Sophisticated, well-thought out, and with every note in the right place? Metal Temple (USA) ?One of my favourite albums of 2018? ? The Progressive Aspect (UK)
