Boo Hoo Biography
Boo Hoo is the moniker of german Folk Singer-Songwriter Bernhard Karakoulakis. Maintaining a steady output of recordings since 2008 Boo Hoo has cultivated a style of melancholy melodic folk music. With a focus on observational lyrics and fingerstyle guitar picking Boo Hoo played for growing audiences in Germany, Europe and the US. Like his sophomore album “Afghan Hounds”, his new EP “Olympic Village Blues” was recorded in New York with producer Brian Speaker and members of the Antifolk Scene, who contribute Bass, Drums and Trumpet to the intimate recordings. Boo Hoo draws his inspiration from different approaches to folk music. His strong sense for melody is rooted in 60’s Folk à la Cat Stevens or Simon and Garfunkel, whereas his taste for poetry based songs comes from a love for Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan, all of which he was introduced to at an early age. The New York Antifolk of the early ’00s, became a heavy influence when Boo Hoo promoted shows for countless songwriters tied to the growing scene around Adam Green or Jeffrey Lewis. Boo Hoo is german Folk Singer-Songwriter Bernhard Karakoulakis.
