About this concert
As a composer, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and unique interpreter of the jazz tradition, she is quickly becoming one of the standard bearers for the form, making a considerable and dynamic contribution to the legacy of jazz while paying tribute to its heroes. Fluid and powerful on the tenor saxophone and highly inventive as a vocalist, she also plays bass clarinet, flute, and piccolo. Her rich sax sound has been compared to Joe Henderson and Dexter Gordon, while her vocal approach—including an impressive scatting ability—has been classified alongside those of Ella Fitzgerald and Betty Carter.

A perfect evening for Jazz in a park setting with excellent weather and not too crowded! Camille and Darrell's slammin' band were absolutely stellar in all their performances!!! Camille is the consummate performer on both her tenor sax and her outstanding vocal expressions!!! She was so engaging with her dramatic renderings of well-chosen tunes and it was a total package!!!

Camille Thurman Biography
An esteemed saxophonist, vocalist, accomplished composer and educator, Camille Thurman is quickly becoming one of the leading young standard bearers of of jazz, making a considerable and dynamic contribution to its legacy. She is known for her creative brilliance, effortless mastery and undeniably distinct approach to the music as both a powerhouse vocalist and saxophonist.
Thurman was the first woman in 30 years to tour and perform full time internationally with the world renown Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra as a saxophonist/woodwind doubler (2018-2020 season). A respected leading musician, she has appeared at notable venues and festivals around the world including The Kennedy Center, Rose Theater, Winter Jazz Fest and The Colbert Show.
Camille has four full-length recordings as a leader to her credit. Her most recent project “Fortitude” (to be released in 2022) is a collaboration with master drummer Darrell Green and his quartet.
