Foreign Affairs Biography
Foreign Affairs is the musical collaboration of brothers Adam and Lawrence Purnell. The duo
began writing together in their early teens before Adam relocated to Brussels for his Guitar
Studies. The move did not halt their progress, instead providing them their name “Foreign
Affairs”, writing sessions via Skype followed and the duo’s sound was born.
On return to the U.K. the duo released their first single ‘Sell my soul’ which received both
local and national BBC radio play. They were subsequently invited to play Glastonbury
Festival along with several prestigious support tours with Margo Price, Frankie Ballard and
Striking Matches.
This year will mark the release of Foreign Affairs’ new record ‘The Old Fire Station’ which
was recorded in their hometown of Bristol. The record is the culmination of their journey to
date, the sounds, sights and experiences that the duo have shared. Drawing from influences
such as The Lumineers, Johnny Cash and The Divine Comedy this record captures their raw
Americana/Indie sound but also displays elements of their eclectic influences.
The powerful and passionate vocal of younger brother Lawrence turns heads Instantly, but it
is the carefully crafted songwriting that keeps them facing that way.
