What fans are saying

This is my third time seeing Emery. I saw them around the early 2010s and have been a fan since around 2006. But I think this was my favorite show yet despite it being one of the smallest - or perhaps because it was the smallest. These guys just get better with age. I was able to talk to Toby briefly and even get an autograph, so that was cool. They put on such an amazing show. I'm currently a Vocals Music Student, so it was super inspiring to see such incredible and solid vocals and the whole show was so fun and stress relieving. It was super intimate, and they showed what professionals they are in coping with some of the technical issues that popped up. And the opener, Strawberry Girls was incredible and got the crowd going wild. Me and my friend definitely found a new vibe band. I can't recommend the show enough. Also Josh is just as wild as I remember, and is definitely cool as hell. He was able to even stand up somehow while crowdsurfing? Just an ideal, perfect experience. I wish I could see Emery perform more often, but I know they're doing their best to come see all their fans. I'm just glad to see them again after so long and finally get to talk to them. I'll definitely try to support them more through Emeryland after this. The venue was actually pretty decent all things considered. The bartender was cool, drink options good, price reasonable. And they had cool couches we could relax on. Everything was orderly and smooth, so no complaints here!

Emery Biography

Our trials and tribulations toughen us up and, ultimately, inform who we become. Emery proudly wear the wisdom from those scars in their songs. The Seattle band—Toby Morrell [vocals, guitar], Devin Shelton [vocals, bass], Josh Head [vocals, keys, synths], Matt Carter [guitar], Dave Powell [drums], Chris Keene [guitar] —teeter on an axis of unpredictably heavy soundscapes, off-kilter grooves, searing melodies, and fits of harmony. Now, the group open up and bleed like never before on their eighth full-length offering, Rub Some Dirt On It [Tooth & Nail]. “The album is based on personal and difficult real-life situations,” reveals Devin. “We wanted to focus on moments that were hard to navigate, but ultimately character-building experiences in our lives. When we would fall, scrape our knees, or get some other fairly insignificant injury, our dads would always say, ‘Rub some dirt on it’. In other words, you’re tougher than you think. Instead of crying or dwelling on it, get up and keep going. Don’t let the pain define you. Instead, learn from it and become better.”
