We've lined up a stellar roster of your fave local artists and some exciting new talents breezing through town!Sailor Jerry Presents a night of psych-pop with Laure Briard (travelling all the way from Toulouse, France), Sunfruits and Zoe Fox and the Rocket Clocks. After releasing her fourth album ‘Ne pas trop rester bleue’ (Don’t stay too blue) in Australia with purveyors of weird and wonderful sounds, Third Eye Stimuli Records, our beloved French psychedelic pop and soul imbued rock artist, Laure Briard is packing her bags for her debut voyage down under, performing songs from her new album along Australia’s east coast this January, 2024. As well as appearing at the prestigious French export music festival, So Frenchy So Chic in Sydney/Eora and Melbourne/Naarm (with the likes of La Femme), Laure Briard will be performing a run of special sideshows, curated by Third Eye Stimuli. As a worthy heiress to Françoise Hardy and Margo Guyan, Laure Briard has created intimate albums between realism and poetry. Performing in the fields of pop, garage rock and bossa nova, she weaves pieces of psychedelic ye-ye where sweetness combines with the cruelty of our existences. Singing in French, English and even Portuguese, Laure Briard’s studies in criminology and her stage debuts in the Toulousian theatre scene are reflected in her musical universe.Comprising of Winter McQuinn, Evie Vlah, Elena Jones, Gene Argiro and Charlie Bowmaker, Melbourne / Naarm based psychedelic pop band Sunfruits have been making waves around Australia for the past 3 years. On their debut album One Degree which saw praise from The Guardian, Rolling Stone, NME, Shindig and more, the band presents anthemic psychedelic-pop and their most mature and conceptual songwriting to date. This album release took the band on tours across New Zealand, Australia, UK and Europe where they sold out shows in London, Hamburg, Nottingham, Melbourne and more. With their environmentally conscious, politically aware songwriting, Sunfruits showcase an impressive new-age take on psychedelia and pop rock that has seen them support bands including Grace Cummings, Mildlife, Nice Biscuit, The Lazy Eyes and appear at festivals including Manchester Psych Festival (UK), Misty Fields Festival (EU), Meadow and more. The band’s environmentally aware songwriting and actions have been praised recently as they were nominated for the prestigious Environmental Music Prize 2023 and climate fuelled lyrics were quoted in the Australian parliament by a Greens Senator. This commitment to meaningful songwriting, exhilarating live show and aesthetic brilliance put Sunfruits as one of the most exciting young bands coming out of Australia.Zoë Fox is a multi-instrumental and multi-genre songwriter from Melbourne, who writes and performs quirky ‘60s inspired folk-pop songs, and is the sole songwriter and front-woman of disco-infused space-pop project, Zoë Fox and the Rocket Clocks. Zoë Fox and the Rocket Clocks’ 2020 debut album Clockwerks received national praise for its multidimensional meanderings through psychedelic and disco pop, with psychedelic collages of whimsy, creative playfulness and intergalactic ventures aplenty. No stranger to the main stage, Fox has performed at a string of Australian festivals, including Falls Music and Arts Festival, NYE on the Hill, The Hills are Alive, Loch Hart Festival, Happy Wanderer Festival, Grampians Music Festival, Moomba and more. She has also played alongside The Teskey Brothers, has sung with Didirri, Darren Hanlon and The Babe Rainbow, and has toured Europe supporting Pauline Croze and Le Maison Tellier.Social Sanctuary is proud to be sponsored by Mountain Goat. Our show is being held on the lands of the Wurundjeri People and we wish to acknowledge them as the Traditional Owners of this land we are gathered on. We also pay our respects to their Elders, past and present, and Aboriginal Elders of other communities that may join us for our show.Northcote Social Club strives to create a safe space that everyone can enjoy.Crowd surfing & dangerous behaviour will result in removal from the venue.Full conditions of entry | Accessibility Info

Laure Briard Biography
