My Life Story Biography

Epic pop pioneers My Life Story released new album Loving You is Killing Me in Feb 2024

Combining playful, evocative lyrics with memorable melodies, My Life Story were previously known as a flamboyant orchestral 11-piece with string and brass section which enjoyed three successful albums and six top forty singles in the 1990s.

Signed to Parlophone in 1996, the band released The Golden Mile which spawned hit singles Sparkle, 12 Reasons Why I Love Her, The King of Kissingdom, Strumpet and Duchess, and re-released a remastered version of 1993 album Mornington Crescent. Joined Up Talking followed on Mother Tongue Records in 2000, featuring the sixth hit single, It’s A Girl Thing.

The My Life Story orchestra also collaborated with acts such as Morrissey, Marc Almond, The Pogues and The Wonderstuff.

The band’s current quintet lineup is led by frontman and songwriter Jake Shillingford, with a distinct rockier sound.

My Life Story released a new single 24 Hour Deflowerer in 2016 and gained a host of new fans and devotees on the back of a two-year run of 90s nostalgia festival dates throughout the UK.

This boost in profile spawned requests for a new album, which the band began crowdfunding in August 2018 through PledgeMusic.

After the unexpected shutdown of Pledge, the band started again… Funded entirely by fans the new album World Citizen was released on 6th September 2019 to critical acclaim.
