Jacob Martin Biography
Jacob Martin was inspired to pursue country music at an early age living in rural Iowa just outside of Sioux City where he first heard the sounds of artists like Garth Brooks and Sawyer Brown. This inspiration was further motivated through his mother who taught him to play guitar to accompany his passion for singing. At the young age of 8, Jacob was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (aka “French Polio”), which paralyzed him from the waist down and would be his hardest fight for years to come.. During this debilitating period in which most of his peers focused on extracurricular's like sports, Jacob instead used this time to develop his craft as a singer-songwriter.
In his early-twenties, he was persuaded to move to larger markets like Chicago and Minneapolis, working on various music projects along the way. While living in the Twin Cities, he heard country and rock fusing together on popular radio and decided to go back to "his roots" and put together a modern country band. From the depths of Craigslist, Jacob found his drummer, Josh Carlson. Following the first album release, the booming musical landscape of Nashville beckoned. Here, they again added two new members from Craigslist, lead guitarist Jeff Coggins, and bass guitarist Mike Guy.
In 2013 they released a limited edition EP, "Wraparound Porch," which peaked at #42 on the Music Row chart after being released to national radio in January of 2013. The follow up EP, 'Look At What You Started,' released on October 21, 2014, with a debut iTunes country album chart position of #26 and #2 on the CMT Pure 12- pack & SiriusXM The Highway #OntheRise. With new music on the radio it built a following that would later land opening slots for Keith Urban, Brantley Gilbert, Big and Rich, Kellie Pickler, Lee Brice, Thomas Rhett, and Dustin Lynch, among many others.
Jacob is now focusing on writing and recording a modern country sound that will "stand out on its own" and be something "new for country listeners" with Eric Bass from the multi-platinum band Shinedown. Jacob's plan is to continue to follow Garth Brook’s mantra and “With the good lord as my Captain, making music for many more years to come”
