Paper Castles Biography

Acceptionalism is the third album from Vermont's Paper Castles, out April 13, 2018 on Acceptional Records. The first single ‘First Blush’ is basically about growing up, losing your virginity, being alone in a crowd, aging out, and getting over it. A lot of the record is variations on this theme, thus the title: Acceptionalism. Paper Castles is the ongoing project of songwriter Paddy Reagan and an ever-evolving list of contributors. The first recordings (Paper Castles EP and Bleating Heart) were darker, somber, simpler songs written on the heels of discovering musicians like Bill Callahan and Sharon Van Etten. Released in 2013, Vague Era found Reagan and company exploring the space where soundscapes and rock songs intersect. Acceptionalism was, for the most part, recorded in eight hours by Ryan Power at Stu Stu Studio in Colchester, VT in May 2016 and mixed by Urian Hackney at The Box in Burlington, VT in late 2017. The intervening 18 months were filled with periodic overdubs in Reagan’s living room, alternate mixes and second guesses. Paper Castles' current line up is Paddy Reagan (vocals/guitar), Brennan Mangan (drums/keys/vocals), Wren Kitz (guitar), and Liz Stafford (bass/vocals). Paper Castles is the ongoing project of songwriter Paddy Reagan and an ever-evolving list of contributors.
