Shealagh Rose Biography
Originally from Hamilton, Ontario, Shealagh Rose is a folk singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who blends storytelling lyrics with sweeping melodic lines and open tunings. With influences from Joni Mitchell to Stevie Nicks, Shealagh brings new levels of emotion to folk music.
Shealagh moved to Toronto in 2012, where she received her Bachelor of Music (class of 2016)from the esteemed program at Humber College as a vocal major. Focusing her college years on her songwriting, she worked alongside the likes of Rik Emmett from Triumph and also had the opportunity to record as a backup vocalist with the legendary Ken Scott (David Bowie, The Beatles, Elton John, Pink Floyd, and more).
She began performing under the name Shealagh Rose in January 2016, and released her debut EP “Island” in July 2016. With the release of "Island", Shealagh Rose brings a new feel to a classic genre. Lush with soulful vocals, addicting progressions, and beautiful string sections, the record boasts the aesthetic of indie folk anthems.
She was a regional finalist (top 10 in Hamilton) in CBC's 2017 Searchlight competition with her song "Dream". Shealagh is currently based out of Hamilton and the Greater Toronto Area where she works towards her sophomore release.
