The Nokturnal North Biography
The Nokturnal North was started as a solo project by Joe Norton in September of 2016. He was working primarily on an experimental electronic project, called "The Gemini Project". It was released in December of 2016.
After the release of "The Gemini Project", Joe had different ambitions for his creation. He decided to go another direction and transition it into an indie folk / rock band. He recruited the help of Steven Bellify to help get the band going, and shortly after, Kiera Waskey to be the lead vocalist and face of the band.
The three of them spent the summer of 2017 working on their debut album as a full band, as well as continuing to play live around the Twin Cities. Written by Joe and Steven, "Farewell, Midwest" was created as a way to pay homage to the region that they all grew up in. They released the long awaited project in January of 2018.
In March of 2018, Steven Bellify left the band leaving just Joe Norton and Kiera Waskey as the remaining anchoring members. Brian Shields joined on as full time producer and manager to help provide leadership and sculpt the sound of the band.
In May of 2018, the band recruited Joel Arend and Sam Bostrom, and they immediately began working on their sophomore LP. They released "This Wilderness" in April of 2019.
